Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Still round the corner we may meet...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

How did you make the almond flour? I've forgotten. In any case, that looks good!

I'm thinking of looking into making custard with Splenda tonight. Mmmm...

"and yet never factor in the real world, the realities of human nature and how society really works."

Not to mention logic!

I think they are attracted partly to the egalitarianism of leftist thought, without realizing that egalitarianism is exactly why leftist governments must be totalitarian. Because, given the differing desires, motivations, abilities, personal dreams, etc, of us all, government cannot make everyone "equal" without assuming awesome, arbitrary, and incredibly detailed power.

Doesn't seem like rocket science, yet somehow it's beyond most academics. Yeah, strange that we let 'em educate our young. Not logical of us, either.

Something tells me that a lot of towns just DON'T have problems like this...

http://www.caledonianrecord.com/pages/picture_of_the_day/story/all

This is in the town where I work...though the college isn't on the main drag, of course.

Oh dear! Loose horses scare me! - Or rather, the people who try to chase them down and catch them. Glad they got home safe with the bucket of grain....

I bought it at Albertson's believe it or not! Bob's Red Mill Almond meal/flour.

It's pricey, but not as bad as in a healthfood store. Yowzer.

I'm figuring it right now to double check the carbs...using only a half a cup of splenda this time...it really was too sweet for my taste.

1.25 C Almond Flour = 15 carbs (got this from the data on the bag of meal)
1 tsp baking powder = 1.27
.5 tsp salt = 0
8 tbsp butter = .07
.5 cup bulk Splenda = 12
2 jumbo eggs = 1.0
.25 cup water = 0
1 tbsp ground almonds = .5
1 tsp almond extract = ?

Except for the meal, I got all of these values off the USDA nutrition database...

http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/search/

Comes out to 31.5 for the total recipe...or 3.15 carbs per serving.

Doesn't seem like rocket science, yet somehow it's beyond most academics. Yeah, strange that we let 'em educate our young. Not logical of us, either.

Especially now that I've been teaching professionally for the last 3 years I fail to understand why a teacher could hold the egalitarianist thoughts. Not that we are not all created equal in the sense of liberty, but seeing students in the classroom day-in/day-out it is impossible to maintain the notion not only that all are not of equal ability, but that all are equal to the task of meeting challenges given them. Motivation and drive to succeed are also not equally divided among us folks. Those who are just simply not motivated are not going to contribute to a workforce the way others are. This defeats any possibility of success of any social structure based on egalitarianistic philosophy.

Of course, there are many other factors that make it impossible as well, but this one should immediately be clear to a reasoning teacher! Yes, it defies logic!

Never fear, these things happened with a certain regularity in the town back home. :-)

Yes...a chain grocery store!

I hate the place, it's over priced, but the Bob's Red Mill items are cheaper there than at a healthfood store.

Well, people look like they behaved and didn't try to play cowboy.

Remember the horse that got loose here last year? - Folk had chased the thing a mile down the road. People came to my gate thinking it was one of mine (was the same color) I fetched some grain and went down there, and it came right to me.

Had a similar experience once with a loose cow. Walked up with grain and looked at the guy chasin' it with a rope. I said.... "whatcha plannin' to do with that rope there? She could drag you a mile before she tired.... who would tire first?"

The cow followed me home with her nose in the bucket. The horse, I haltered for the longer walk home.

I may be getting close to another FRtime-out, so if it happens I'll check in every now and then on ecurbh's website if it's still going.

Actually, I saw you get warned this morning. Almost did a little ksen rescue attempt! Why not just come back here for awhile?

Your banning isn't predestined.... You could just decide to ~behave~!

I've not seen Bob's Red Mill products here...but I think there's another brand that's probably comparable. I can check my local "big" grocery store and see what they've got.

Of course...in two weeks I can have whole grain bread, so long as it's really whole grain - not a white flour / whole wheat mix.

But almond bread sounds like a very nice breakfast treat!

See, but that's the thing....I generally do behave.

I am in FRmail with the RM trying to hash this thing out. We'll see what happens.

Mostly I remember heifers getting loose back home. Of course, we weren't in town, so it wasn't as big of a deal.

The farmer who owned them had all his cows in another part of town, near his house...but the heifers were pretty much on their own during the summer. He put them out to pasture and made sure they had enough to eat, and they did check all the fencelines several times a year, but every few years there would be one particular heifer who was too smart for her own good, and she'd find every weakness and lead the rest of them out, too. Then they'd have to round 'em up and lure them back with grain. Bad little girls!

The boys are still eating my homemade whole wheat bread...that easy recipe...it's so easy I can whip it up pretty fast.

I figured it's about 13 carbs per slice...per vey thin slice!

But they need it!
