Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Still round the corner we may meet...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

This aspect of university people, especially the ones in the arts, drives me batty. Agreed! I could not stomach working at even this little community college at any of the other campuses. Just being in meetings with those folks drives me batty. They live in some idyllic dream world. I need reality!
*sigh* But word has it that the dean is wanting my program moved to another campus here in town. I have voiced the thought that should that happen they will be looking for a new CADD instructor and I will be working back in the engineering field.

Hmm, about the plants, around here disappearing plants are due to the rabbits. We have a lot of bunnies in our neighborhood that are very much like Peter Rabbit. Occasionally, I tease PE calling him Farmer MacGregor. We can forget about tulips and other such "yummy" things for the front yard. The back yard we have somewhat barricaded with bricks. Hehe, bunnies can't eat what they can't reach.

Gophers might have got em...I had an entire garden disappear completely a couple of years ago...I think I mentioned it before? I thought my wild youth was catching up with me and that I had hallucinated planting the garden at all! The soil didn't even look disturbed. But then I caught a gopher in the act of taking a cauliflower plant down it's hole. The plant was a foot across and it just pulled the entire plant down it's hole!
We solved that problem in a very easy way...we wrapped the roots loosely in steel wool prior to planting the transplants. Didn't bother the plants, the roots grew through the steel wool and the gophers don't like the taste!

ohhhh..... perks to being a teacher.
I get free books to evaluate as textbooks. I called 3 companies because I want a better book for my electrical electronics drafting class. I ended up with a HUGH box of books today and one of 'em is chock full of HAM stuff! :-) Have reading material while students work now. :-)

It's beyond me how an intelligent person can favor a philosophy that gives the state totalitarian power and which has been responsible for the deaths of a couple hundred million human lives in only 50 years' time, while at the same time thinking they are "free spirits" who oppose oppression.
I think the answer is that some of them, like Mrs Clinton, understand very well what they are up to (gathering power), while others, like my art prof, are just blindly following tradition without really applying critical thinking.

I picked Matthew up a hotcakes and sausage from McD. I had almond bread for breakfast with a cup of green tea. Mmmm!
I figured it up and it came out to about 3 carbs per slice, makes 10 slices. If carbs aren't an issue, you could change the splenda to sugar and I bet it would still be fantastic. I found it to be a bit too sweet, so I'm cutting the splenda next time.
Almond Bread
1 1/4 cups almond flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
8 tbsp butter, at room temperature
1 cup Splenda
2 eggs
1/4 cup water
1/4 cup heavy cream
1 tbsp ground almonds
1 tsp almond extract
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 1 pound loaf pan.
2. In a bowl, stir together the almond flour, baking powder, and salt.
3. In another bowl beat the butter and Splenda on medium speed until
blended. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add
the almond flour mixture, water, cream, ground almonds and almond extract.
Beat on low until well blended and smooth.
4. Spoon the batter into the loaf pan and bake 50 minutes or until a
toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool in the pan for 15
minutes, then remove and let cool completely on a wire rack. Slice into 10
pieces and enjoy.

while others, like my art prof, are just blindly following tradition without really applying critical thinking. It bothers me that educational professionals can show such a lack of reasoning thought in their political and social philosophies. They're so clustered in academia that they distill these high-minded thoughts and yet never factor in the real world, the realities of human nature and how society really works. They're completely useless as far as functional thought goes, and yet they are teaching our new generations. Scary.
