Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Still round the corner we may meet...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

The people who allowed ROUND MICE to be released deserve to go to the same part of hell reserved for ME's designers.

Our graphic design people ESPECIALLY like 'em. Really fun attempting detailed drawings with a round mouse...most of the labs are past that, but there are a few left.

I dunno anybody that actually buys IBM desktops, and not for years. They do make a very nice laptop. Overpriced, but solid.

Yeah...I think so. We brought some IBM PC's that were still under lease when we moved to KS. The KS computer guys pretty much said they weren't going to work on them.

I thought the point of the Hobbit Hole is that we can have 53 conversations at once?

I thought it was 54? :)

If our experience was typical, nobody SHOULD buy their desktops, that's for sure. They were actually MORE problematic than the Packard Bells and Zeniths that some other bigwig up the chain of command contracted for us to buy. Then after that, we got Compaqs. Celerons, too - the original sort.

There was MUCH rejoicing a few months before I left, when the military finally got a contract with Dell.

Yeah, if you had the correct proprietary parts to install.

Or was that just the earlier models?

They needed a lot of work.

I like my generic Antec tower case... lots of room inside.

I was upgrading a couple of Legends bought in '95. The generic RAM modules worked. So did the Seagates, VooDoo, modem (I forgot what brand), Asound sound card. I even upgraded the processor to an AMD using an Evergreen adapter thingy.
