Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Still round the corner we may meet...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I'm so glad we live where we do, and not in Dallas or Atlanta (or Houston). It's something about the (lack of) city planning and traffic woes that gets to me.

I am going to go lay down, and *hopefully* get some sleep. Last night was not a good night for sleeping.

G'd evening... oh, it's been a long day and it's not over yet. On top of headache, work, getting compliments from the scary aged hippie, and going through carb withdrawal, my best friend (who's been in Mexico this semester) wrote me a very emotional email, saying her parents are getting divorced, and I have no idea how to help.

And I've got another 2.5 hours of work, then home, I ought to exercise, and there's homework for tomorrow. Guess I'd better drink more caffiene.

Ummm.....my "Service" light wouldn't go off on the way home. But it didn't stay on when I left the mailboxes. Should I get it checked out?

Hmmm... I'm not a car person, but the 'service' light usually isn't anything major. Sometimes when you hit X miles it comes on to remind you to get a checkup.

I just had the oil changed last weekend. The "Oil Change" light is a different light. This one was the orange "Service" light with the picture of a wrench. I couldn't get the light to go off before leaving work so I drove it to the service place. They didn't have time to do a diagnostic so I'm supposed to bring it by tomorrow morning. Then, of course the stupid light acted normal when I was leaving the service place and after the mail stop.

A common cause of that is a gas cap that's not properly screwed on, or has some sort of problem. Make sure the gas cap is on properly, although it may take up to 100 miles for the message to go away.

Okay. The service light stayed on only from work to the car guy's place. Then it was off from the car guy's to home.

I'll check the gas cap.

BTW....if I get a DVD burner for my desktop, how easy is it to convert the old CD/CD-R/DVD drive into an external drive that I can use with my laptop?

If your laptop has USB 2.0 on it, pretty easy. Buy an external drive case, and put the device in it. The IDE-to-USB electronics in the case handles the nitty gritty of making the PC work with the drive. This works best with Windows 2000 or XP, earlier ones need special drivers. Cost is about $40 for the case and power supply.

Well currently I'm using Me on the laptop but I've got the Upgrade Bug real bad! :)

Yeah, that's pretty much what I thought. Now all I have to do is pay off the credit card first.

One DIMM module....just one. Well they aren't that expensive....make it two. Oooooh look! 160 GB hard drives...and they aren't that expensive! But I'll have to upgrade the OS. Hmmmm.....the price of DVD recorders is down...what should I do with the old drive?
