Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Still round the corner we may meet...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Thanks. So far no call-back.

The frustrating thing is, two 'cruiters from there have called my machine, once each. I've called them back, expressing my willingness to come aboard, twice each. Neither has called me back.

God's will be done. Goodnight.

When I go into business for myself (selling leftover brogans or renting used beanie babies, I haven't decided which), the name will be A Fine Kettle of Halibut.

Ich verscheissen Sie nicht; that's the name, whatever the business. I also know what the logo will look like.

And a preposition is a fine thing to end a sentence with. Goodnight again.

I think that's a fine name for a business!

Oh, and thanks for the new German verb to add to my vocabulary.

Good night to you!

Prepositions are just simply not good things to end sentences with. This is something I believe strongly about.

But the Halibut thing... anything involving halibut is good. I love halibut. I like eating it. I like fishing for it.

Though... if you've ever fished for halibut... it's not like they're a lot of fun to play. Since... playing a halibut is sorta like playing a ten foot rowboat that you're trying to pull up from the bottom on thirty pound test line. :-)

We interrupt this unscheduled (minor) elf-bashing to bring you a bit of knife kneep.

I just got a new knife design from CRKT today. It won't replace our beloved HH knife, but, judging by the initial pictures, it was a cute, tiny knife that would work well on my keychain.

Well, it wasn't quite as tiny as the Scrade SS1 I have on my keychain, but it is cute, and man, is it elegant and ingenious.

This is the CRKT Snap Lock. The blade swings on a pivot inside the handle. The knob on the end of the blade opens the frame enough to swing the blade open or closed, and the blade locks in both positions. To give a better idea of the size, here it is with a standard HH knife.

If the pocket clip is removed, the blade can swing a complete 360 degrees, making it ambidextrous. The pocket clip can be attached on either side, too. As with the Sampson, this is a ~$50 licensed version of a $200+ custom knife.

I've played with the knife for about an hour now, and I'm still trying to figure out how best to use it one-handed. But it clicks open and close like a piece of precision equipment. I give it high grades for geekiness, ingenuity, and precision.

Today was indeed my long day. Had choir... we're not going to have any more choir for a while. Maybe done for the summer. It will be nice to have Tuesdays back.

I found a good shipping container for the anime! Nice metal case, not too heavy, should hold all the disks. And since we got to choir early, I introduced the sister to manga. Perhaps I should have started her on something less twisted than Ranma, but she doesn't seem too scarred.

Yawn. Did my lunch. Have to go shower. I'll be back.
