Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Still round the corner we may meet...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Hmm... let me think about this. At the very least, I'm willing to loan you my Rurouni Kenshin - it would be cheap enough to mail to you - at some point.

You should see if you can get some sibs to go in with you. Too bad there's no Borders nearby - I would tell you to go look at the manga before you buy anime.

There's a Borders about an hour away. Not close...but I get down there once every coupla months, usually. At least during the summer.

So that's something.

Anime's expensive. So are manga. The Kenshin manga are the cheapest I've seen, at $8.

We need to find out how people get fansubs - the latest stuff, more or less free... Suzi, any chance Soupy-kun can get us some info? Or more lovely anime? I'm about ready to kill for Fruits Basket.

My tickets are ordered! If you want, maybe we can all do dinner beforehand.

Thanks for pinging me on this, I was just wondering a few days ago whether you were going to be ordering tickets soon.

Cool! - Did you get tickets near us or choose another spot? Have someone that you are going with?

Doesn't cost anything to LOOK at manga, though.

But free is always good...of course!

I DO wish that the lines between legal and illegal and right and wrong were a bit clearer when it comes to anime, though.

So do I. If it's afforable, it's illegal.

Still... fansubs are sort of ok, if a 'real' translation isn't available. I understand there are fan-translations of manga, too. It's a matter of finding the right thing.

I'm not at all sure of whether the 'import' disks are at all legal. Surely they wouldn't be so easily available if they weren't...?

It's the import stuff I wonder the most about. They're allll over eBay and the like. It'd be nice if they were kosher...but I gotta think they aren't.

Sigh.

I'm not going to tell him, but I'm going to do it and if I do lose weight (which I think I will), I can say "told you so". Not the most positive motivation, I suppose

Some of my best workouts have been motivated by someone telling me I couldn't do something :) If it was a sibling telling me it, that'd probably motivate me even more! :) You're doing good, Rosie!--stick with the exercise and you can still eat meat and olive oil and be able to tell your brother "I told you so!" :)

Lalalalala.... I can't hear you...

I've worked out a very... twisted argument for myself; I spend as much as I can on 'licensed' stuff. For example, I got the Rurouni Kenshin OAVs legit - and expensive! I'm getting the manga as it's published. But I just can't spend $300...

Then again, sometimes it bites you. Remember how my Escaflowne disks didn't have all the subtitles?

Twisted arguments work at least some of the time. For example...cookies filled the time between when I couldn't have spent money on the movies even if I WANTED to. They've been gone from here for months now.

It wouldn't have burned me up QUITE so bad if I thought he was right. And it wouldn't have bothered me QUITE so much if he hadn't been so condescending about it. But...I DON'T agree with him AND he was condescending.

Wow, good going on the diet! :) Has your head been feeling better, then?--I was going to ask you about that yesterday.

Punisher was good, though it could've been better. At the ticket booth after you paid they gave you a free reprint of Punisher's first appearance in Amazing Spider-Man #129, an old collector's item issue, which was an unexpected treat! :) The best part of the movie was the opening 1/3 or so which expanded on the comic-book account of Punisher's origin. After that the Punisher began his vendetta against organized crime. His methods of taking out the criminals were pretty clever, and they had some good actors playing the villains, with some good action scenes. My main complaint was that the violence got pretty brutal when the Punisher's friends got caught and tortured, and when Punisher finally caught the top bad guys in the end. Also, they didn't develop the Punisher's internal moral struggle enough, though when they touched on it, it was interesting. It was a good superhero movie, better than many but not quite reaching the level of X-Men or Spider-Man. Speaking of which, they showed a new, longer preview for Spider-Man 2 before the movie--looks good! :)

Hmmm... Punisher didn't look appealing to me, but I am glad you liked it!

I finally caught up on sleep this weekend - well, staying in bed until almost noon helped - and also I did very little reading. So my head's pretty good, right now, though I'm still having sinus issues.

I thank Dr Atkins for that diet. It's worked so well this far.

Right. Fansubs definitely qualify as cookies - you can't buy the anime yet. Imports are a different matter. The "I really wanted it" defense isn't much of one, is it? But "Rurouni Kenshin" is so good. I'll definitely lend it to you, though I'm not sure when - maybe next month, if I ever get the rest of it, and then when I move you can send it back.

I'll look forward to it! ;-)

Though you certainly don't have to lend it if you don't wanna be without it. On the other hand...then we could discuss it.
