The Hobbit Hole VIII - Still round the corner we may meet...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Still round the corner we may meet...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Star Trek IV: Save the Whales!

I love that movie. Spock "did a little too much LDS" in the 70s...

Star Trek IV: Save the Whales!

I've prolly already told this story. Star Trek IV premiered the week wife and I got married. So we had this little "private" ~ so we both thought ~ joke...ahem...

To boldly go where no man has gone before...

She told her maid of honor, I told my best man. Y'all have seen the wedding party so you know it weren't a small affair.

We're standing there taking pictures and all of a sudden the entire wedding party starts humming the Star Trek theme...

That is a little strange. Kind of cool, though.

Drat, my sister's babysitting tonight so I don't get to go biking after all. Oh well.

Riding in an ordinary cop car is going to seem tame for Steve when he comes back. Well, at least he'll have easier access to donuts.

LOL! Go to Blockbusters sometime and in the doucmentary section see if you can find episodes of Leonard Nimoy's old show In Search Of, and you'll see just how far out he got in the 70s :) Anyway, yeah, that was a fun movie. I also liked the part with Chekov looking for the "nuclear wessels" :)

Nah, ya didn't kilt it, I'm just trying to juggle multiple threads here. Talk to you when you get back from biking! BTW, I'm drawing a practice comic page right now, hoping to have it done by tonight and if so I'll show you.

I declare Shenanigans!

Look toward the middle of the grid, horizontally.

ecurbh got 49 points for that word that shouldn't even be in the dictionary!

IIRC, he fought it and was able to to convince the PD that getting qualified (notice ~ they didn't say "trained") for EACH firearm he OWNS was redundant (not to mention a bad way to maintain retention of officers)

Were they going to make him qualify with a blued and a stainless steel weapon, even though they were otherwise identical?

"Qualifying" with a backup weapon, or holdout, should be done differently, since they are intended for different purposes. That type of training can be valuable, if done properly.

yes, I agree, it could be valuable, except that it's a hugh waste of time seeing that he owns close to a hundred guns. Methinks the dept was just trying to get revenue from its officers. Either that or he *really* pissed someone off, LOL.

If they were talking about him getting trained on the weapons he routinely carries, I would understand that. However, they wanted him to get qualified on every type that he owns.

Every one he owns, even those that he'd never carry on the job? Like that five pound Desert Eagle in an ankle rig?
