Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Still round the corner we may meet...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I went out in the woods with her new metal detector, and found all this inside a half hour.

heh... looks like what I found on my homestead... hauled away over a dozen trailerloads of frap metal...

I've got a whole bulb. Could lend you a few cloves, if they'd only figured out a way to transfer stuff via internet. Oh well.

How's the red meat coming?

It's coming....it started from a frozen state so it's taking awhile.

Maybe I should get a microwave....

That shop in Nome should use FedEx.

As long as it doesn't end up on Tom Hanks' plane.

[/late Monday goofyness]

Castaway (2000)-- Hanks is a time-obsessed FedEx manager whose plane goes off-course and crashes in the sea. So if your meat was on it, it would never arrive.

Monday evening goofiness doesn't always work well with others. Sorry.

'S okay. I don't watch/ haven't seen a lot of movies made after...say....the '60s. I'm mostly an old movies fan. Er....fan of old movies. :)

That's some really nice metal frap you got there... :-)

I think that thing will make a big difference in making the woods somewhat more horse-friendly. That steel drum was a real wake-up call to what might be back there.

Evening all! - Back from town.... the temp job I have this week consists of listening to a committee of fifth grade teachers propose and refine questions for an update to the WASL test, which is the state standardized test for elementary kids.

My job is to type all their ideas for them to see on a projector, and then listen as they refine the wording of the questions and answers as they debate them.

The challenge for me to remember is that I am not there for my input, but my typing skill. Though I feel I can write, they don't want to hear from me, even when their version is frap and I could say it better. It has been awhile since I have been at a meeting where I wasn't supposed to talk! They didn't hush me, they just didn't encourage me the few times I spoke up. They are the experts, after all ;~D

Thanks for the update, smaagee... prayers are constant for you all of your buds.

Special prayers for those gone missing. That's a special sort of chill that runs up my back, to hear such news.

It does strike me as unusual that the missing have not yet been trotted out as "hostages" by the vermin yet. You'd think that if they were captured the enemy would try to make use of them right away. I don't know... I'm just hoping that they are found and in good shape.

Keep the faith... there's lots of folk back here rooting for you. :-)

That steel drum was a real wake-up call to what might be back there.

That was the scariest... so far.... that and the metal frame thingys just the right dimension for them to hook a foot in and get stuck on 'em. By the time they stopped trying to kick it off, they could have cut themselves pretty good.

Other stuff is just nice to have out of there. They have pretty good instincts for staying away from strange things.... if the pony's curiosity doesn't win out.

OMG... that sounds excruciating. It's like sitting in a meeting with Patty Murray and resisting the temptation to just slap her silly.
