The
New York Oberserver has the latest on Al Gore's ambitions:
...Al Gore and business partner Joel Hyatt...will close the deal to pay around $70 million to French-owned Vivendi Universal this week, making them the owners of the tiny digital-cable channel Newsworld International (NWI), moving Mr. Gore from politics to mini-media-moguldom [LOL!]. It wasnt easy for Mr. Gore to get his hands on NWI. According to two sources familiar with the situation, Mr. Gore went so far as to seek the influence of French President Jacques Chirac in buying the channel, hoping that Mr. Chirac would aid him in landing a sweetened deal...
For a time, Mr. Gores TV channel will maintain its current programming, for which there appears to be a very, very small market. NWI has carriage in about 20 million homes, and packages "foreign newscasts originally broadcast in countries such as Germany, Japan, Canada and the European community," ...
...the channel would... arm kids with cheap digital cameras and empower them to do an end run around the big media. [Gore does "The Blair Witch Project" as news!]
Read the whole thing...it's hysterical! Question: Will Gore be able to resist the temptation to try making HIMSELF the network star?!

Franken's not bitter, not one bit!
Mr. Franken agreed that the left had been lax during the techno-revolution while the right "felt a certain urgency, to their credit, and they had a lot of right-wing financiers who saw this as a need. A lot of them were trust-fund babies who inherited a lot of money and wanted to keep it and now have bought their way into the Congress and the Bush administration, and you have a lot of wealth trying to keep a lot of wealth and a very stacked deck in this country right now."
Mr. Franken has said he may only do his radio show for a year, depending on how he likes it. For him, there was a pointed political endgame to his own media pursuitsgetting Senator John Kerry elected to the Presidency. "I think Rush has had some effect on elections, and I wouldnt mind having some effect on this one," he said. "I dont know how quickly
but hopefully well be able to have some influence and some effect on the way people think."
A year? LOL! Keep on dreaming.
Watch as the NWI circles the bowl under algore and his band of youngsters with cameras. I do wish algore would do a simulcast of Franken's show, there's nothing quite as entertaining (for me) than to watch liberals make asses of themselves.

Harold's first day in Paris was very successful and he found a number of pieces he thought he could profitably sell back home. After the arrangements were made to begin shipping this furniture to Tenn, he decided to celebrate with a glass of wine at a small sidewalk cafe.
The place was jammed, but he managed to find an empty table. Just about the time his wine arrived, a beautiful girl came by and motioned to the empty chair at his table with a questioning look on her face. He assumed she wanted to sit with him and nodded his head "yes". The girl sat down with him.
The girl tried to talk to him, but, alas, he understood not one word of French. He tried to talk to her, but, alas, she understood not one word of English. He had an idea. He took a napkin and drew a wine glass and a question mark. She nodded her head "yes".
They sat quietly enjoying their wine. When it was just about finished, Harold realized it was nearly time for dinner. He took another napkin and drew a picture of two people at a table eating dinner. She nodded her head "yes" and took him by the hand. She led him down the street to a very nice restaurant. They went in. The girl spoke with the head waiter and they were seated in a quiet corner where they could hear the band playing and see the dance floor.Harold could not read the menu since it was in French, so he allowed the girl to order for him. The food was excellent and the couple thoroughly enjoyed it.
After dinner, Harold took a napkin and drew a picture of a couple dancing. She nodded her head "yes" and they danced to every song the band played, whether fast or slow. When the band quit playing and began to pack away their instruments, the couple returned to their table.
The girl took a napkin and reached for the pen. He handed it to her and she drew a picture of a four poster bed. Harold Smith is still wondering to this day how she knew he was in the furniture business.

Look at the expression on Teresa's face, the poor dear. Their publicity machine must be promoting the idea she's "exotic" to counteract her drab and mousey appearance.
And is it just me or does the guy on the left look like he's yelling "Take it off!"

Good photo of Kerry with the flower power daisy thingie on his jacket. I wonder when he will start wearing a yarn bracelet on his wrist ala Billy Jeff....I kinda thought that ole geezer on the left was saying "come to Papa" to John or Teresa but he is probably just clapping vigorously.
Money cannot buy respect...Soros splashed with water and glue by young Ukrainians

Oops, sorry... I was shopping for my granddaughter (also crazy for shoes). They're sandals, the toe straps are covered with shiny 'tiles' that change from pink to purple and littlest wood heel. The rest of the leather is an iridescent pink. And I found some really cute leather thongs that come with changeable butterflies and flowers, of course I couldn't resist those. One has to have comfortable shoes to hunt eggs I always say.

I am back from the luncheon for the Acton Institute. It's a very conservative religious institution and I love my yearly inspirational luncheons.
Several jokes were made about the Kerry Fundraiser two floors above us. Twice the priest announced " If you are here for 'People who Love Kerry' you are in the wrong room and are advized to get out NOW!!!"
