Wilpon needs to sell the team. He should have signed A-Rod three years ago, when he had the chance. Not to mention Vlad slipping through his fingers this season. And the only reason the Mets signed Piazza was because Doubleday wanted to do it, not Wilpon. What a cheapskate.

You know, some people just shouldn't be pro sports team owners. If I actually (still) liked the Knicks, I'd be praying daily for the Dolans to sell the damn team, but I think I'm now a Rockets fan. ;)

For all of Steinbrenner's faults, at least he spends the money on his team. I don't understand these guys who buy the teams and then go all cheapskate on them.

FWIW, about 7 years ago, I started doing the research for an article on how teams fare, in terms of championships, based on ownership. I was going to look at corporate-owned teams vs. those owned by individuals or small groups of individuals.

I had some preconceived notions about that and wanted to see if I was right, but my editor wasn't interested...

No argument there. With Steinbrenner owning the Yankees, the fans know that George will do whatever it takes to improve the team, no matter how much it costs. Not many fans can say that.

I hear ya. I give the bitter dude credit for placing winning above all else, which as you said is quite rare these days. Most owners just look at the bottom line, and if they can make a profit without fielding a $100+ million team, they'll do it in a heartbeat.
