Recommendations on a Good Literary Agent? (Vanity Request for Advice)
governsleastgovernsbest

Posted on 02/13/2004 1:49:12 PM PST by governsleastgovernsbest

I'm in the midst of writing an international thriller, and frankly am quite excited about it.

My research indicates that it is virtually mandatory to use the services of a literary agent. At the same time, I note that there are many unscrupulous and bogus "agents" out there.

Would any of my fellow FReepers be able to recommend an agent with competence and integrity who deals in this genre of book?

Thanks!

Go to the library and ask for Literary Market Place in the reference room and check out the agents listed. Do NOT use the books you can get in the store because they accept everyone--LMP selects agents for inclusion based on the number of actual sales they make.

Almost any fiction agent will be interested in a good thriller. Just write a solid one page cover letter briefly describing the book and include 25 pages or so.

Good luck!

I have a great agent, but I don't think he deals with that type of writing.

Good luck!

Thanks to all for a number of valuable suggestions.

By the way, by any chance is anyone familiar with "New Brand" literary agents? I came across them in my research and they appear reputable. I've taken up their offer of accepting email submissions including a first chapter.

You might want to try self-publishing. Try booklocker.com. You can find more about it at writersweekly.com. I am going to try them for a book I've written.

Thanks I.S. It will be one of those rare books where the central figure is a . . . conservative!

Best of luck to you. We need all of the good, conservative Americans who have a knowledge and love of this nation's foundational principles writing as we can get.

I have worked with three different agents and not netted anything of substance to date...so I continued on my own path, selling my techno-thriller series, The Dragon's Fury Series, on my own as a self published work.

I have completed four volumes to date and am working on the fifth (and last) in the series now. It's a tale of how current conditions lead to World War III with the Chinese and the fundamental Islamics forming an unholy alliance and opening up a multiple theater war on the UNited States and our allies.

It's available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Powell's and many other notable sites.
