140 lb German Sheperd? *jaw drop* Aw that's just wrong. I know my mom and dad's Dobe is hefty at 125lb but that's just cause he's so damn spoiled. I irked my mom one day by telling her 'You know you couldn't put Shag on a diet cause he'd just go out in the woods and catch himself a rabbit' (disclaimer: Mom's not a PETA type, just hates it when Shag brings back little presents and leaves them in the front yard)

I'm recalling here, males no more than 95-100, females maybe 85-90.

They are sweet, they require a lot of attention. Where ever I go in the house Maggies goes. I get up an go to the kitchen - Maggie gets up and goes to the kitchen. It's like that all the time day. Maggie is never more then a few feet away.

We had a very sweet golden retriever, but when she got old (15) and died, we got a wire fox terrier. We had little kids and this dog is real smart. She's just the right size, knows how to steal cookies and can take either of the boys down if they get to be too much. When the boys get bigger, maybe we will consider a larger breed. Goldens are very nice. I had a Kerry Blue once, but they can be a real handful.

People think bigger is better, and ignorant people by from ignorant breeders, like the cocker, destroying the breed. If anyone ever considers a purebred dog, it is imperative you research the breed, and visit reputable breeders. They will ask you tons of questions as well and 'qualify' you and your family.

This is not the winner, but a great example of a Sussex.

That 140lb GSB is gonna have some SERIOUS hip issues as he gets older if that dumbass owner doesn't put him on a diet. We used to raise Dobes so I know some of the health issues with the larger breeds.

Not my kind of breed, but they are showy! My favorite in this group is the Harrier...though I love the Irish Wolfhound too.
To: Severa
Bassets are really, really cute puppies but they can be quite stubborn and hard to train (housebreak)

Yeah not good in Navy base housing. *L* We'll have to wait and see, cause we're moving later this year as well.

It's not that they are fat, they are breeding them bigger all around. It's really a shame. Hopefully enough around here will realize it. I don't know if it's a national trend. When this women told me how big her dog was, I think I gave her a disgusting look, because she asked me, "what's wrong with that?"
To: anniegetyourgun
Irish Wolfhounds are awesome dogs but I don't care for wire hair coats, like something softer

Bassett is a better family pet. The Beagle is great, but they are rangers.....will run off just as soon as you look away.
To: Severa
You said that right! Not good in Navy housing.
