Now we see Cockers - #1 on AKC favorite list for so many years that the breed was destroyed. Only starting now to make a comeback. Note the BIS Westminster winner from 50 years ago - he could hunt. Today's Cocker can hardly make it through tall grass in your backyard.

I just think with all that fur, the cockers sure would get tons of burrs on them while hunting.

I'll have to look that one up.
(I have a built-in bias against the breed. My neighbor has one and its a nasty, sullen dog that would just as soon bite you as whiz in your flowerbed. And yes, he calls it "Fifi").

Cockers are foo-foo dogs. That coat wouldn't work in Southern quail country with burrs in the weeds.

Boy is that the truth
When I was a kid we had a black Cocker so sweet her name was Sugar, great dog
No resemblence to "modern" cockers
Glad to hear they are making a comeback

Take a look at the cocker from the 20's and see how much better for hunting they were then:

Well, I like just about all dogs, but Newfoundland are special (to me). They are just about the nicest dog ever. Hardly ever get mad (but it is ugly when they do). Very big dogs and very sweet temperment.
