This is so weird. The official RCC position (2004, not medieval) is the only mainstream denomination that says anyone - even nonchristians - can go to heaven. Even Buddhists. Read JPII's books. Says so.

Does he say that even if they don't believe in Christ as the Savior they can still go to Heaven? I find that REAL hard to swallow.
Regardless, Gibson practices a very old form of Catholicism. I believe they even still give the sermons in Latin at mass in his church. So, even if there is a new philosophy, it wouldn't surprise me that Gibson doesn't stick with it.

Says so.Yes, it certainly is weird. That is one of the main reasons why Mel Gibson is a traditional Catholic who attends the Latin Mass and doesn't listen to the teachings of Vatican II or Pope John Paul II -- because they are in contradiction to the constant teaching of the Church for 2000 years. Calling a Catholic doctrine "medieval" is a compliment, not a criticism, since the truth never changes.

Elaine: So is it a problem that I'm not really religious?
Puddy: Not for me.
Elaine: Why not?
Puddy: I'm not the one going to hell.
