Regardless, Gibson practices a very old form of Catholicism. I believe they even still give the sermons in Latin at mass in his church. So, even if there is a new philosophy, it wouldn't surprise me that Gibson doesn't stick with it.

The continuous teaching of the Church for 2000 years was still being practiced right up until around 1965. Gibson has stuck with the original, while most of the rest of the Church is testing out the new modern version.
