Gibson was interviewed by the Herald Sun in Australia, and the reporter asked the star if Protestants are denied eternal salvation. There is no salvation for those outside the Church, Gibson replied. I believe it. He elaborated: Put it this way. My wife is a saint. Shes a much better person than I am. Honestly. Shes, like, Episcopalian, Church of England. She prays, she believes in God, she knows Jesus, she believes in that stuff. And its just not fair if she doesnt make it, shes better than I am. But that is a pronouncement from the chair. I go with it.

I guess we'll have to leave it there. You won't give me a straight-forward answer to the question. I'm inferring from your remarks that Catholic doctrine DOES teach that only Catholics can be saved. If so, I can understand why you would be uncomfortable just spelling it out. I just wanted to understand what the teaching was and you seemed to be real knowledgeable. I'll inquire elsewhere. Thanks.

Look, prolific typing and lots of capital letters and rambling on about topics that are relevant perhaps only in your own mind does not change facts.
Outside the Church there is no salvation.
This is a defined dogma. It can never be changed or denied. You have called it a heresy. Wise up.
To: smith288
First off I doubt he actually said this, if he did say it than he is wrong. There is no salvation outside the Church means that all will be saved through the Church. "One cannot charge with the sin of seperation those who at present are born into these communities [that resulted from such seperation] and in them are brought up in the faith of Christ, and the Catholic Church accepts them with respect....All who have been justified by faith in Baptism are incorporated into Christ, they therefore have a right to be called Christians, and with good reason are accepted as brothers in the Lord by the children of the Catholic Chruch." 818 Catechism of the Catholic Church
If you want the truth about what the Catholic Church teaches its real simple, just read the official documents i.e.the Catechism of the Catholic Church, nothing is hiden. No where, in no official document of the Catholic Church does it state that a Protestant will be damned to hell, it just ain't there. Some misguided Catholics have said these things, even some in the hierarchy but that in no way makes it Dogma. Pius IX basically said that if you know or believe the Catholic Church is the Church instituted by God or your denial is culpable, then you have a problem.

Want to know what Jesus thought about Mary worship???
Oh, is that what we Catholics do? And you'd know this exactly how? In your tiny irreverent world, exactly who was the greatest woman to have ever lived, if not the Mother of Our Lord?"And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost: And she spake out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed [art] thou among women, and blessed [is] the fruit of thy womb. And whence [is] this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For, lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy. And blessed [is] she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord. And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. For He hath regarded the low estate of His handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. For He that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy [is] His name." - Luke 1:41-49
The verse that you pulled out of your own personal interpretation of scripture scratchpad clearly indicates that Jesus wants us to pay attention to God's word, which is more important than a biological relationship to Jesus. Please, spare yourself further embarrassment trying to prove that Catholics who properly venerate the Mother of God, do not follow God's word."All generations will call me blessed": "The Church's devotion to the Blessed Virgin is intrinsic to Christian worship."515 The Church rightly honors "the Blessed Virgin with special devotion. From the most ancient times the Blessed Virgin has been honored with the title of 'Mother of God,' to whose protection the faithful fly in all their dangers and needs. . . . This very special devotion . . . differs essentially from the adoration which is given to the incarnate Word and equally to the Father and the Holy Spirit, and greatly fosters this adoration."516 The liturgical feasts dedicated to the Mother of God and Marian prayer, such as the rosary, an "epitome of the whole Gospel," express this devotion to the Virgin Mary.517 Catholic Catechism"There are not many people in the United States who hate the Catholic Church, but thousands of people who hate what they mistakenly believe the Catholic Church to be."
Bishop Fulton J. Sheen

What does any council of Nicolaitans have to do with our Lord's church? There are no councils. There have been many congregations of true believers, and few if any of them had anything to do with Rome after Constantine smashed the Roman congregation and subsumed them into his pagan dynasty.
The body of Christ is the church, not some coven of pagan priests who worship the virgin of Ninus.

Actually this whole little charade is sarcasm aimed at my RC friends who constantly claim there are 30,000 proddie denominations, which is in itself absurd.
Hopefully you will call each other to task when that absurd claim, which has been refuted more than once, is trotted out. Otherwise your last couple of posts to me will seem just a little hypocritical. <><

?????
All I did was quote a scripture address. If you have problems with what Jesus said, well, that's your right, I guess. He just put the priorities where they belong.

Note how they continually repeat the ancient pagan titles like "mother of god" and "queen of heaven" that were used in reference to Semiramus (AKA Astarte, Ishtar, Isis, Diana) and they even use the cross buns of Babylon, and the circular bread of pagan worship, in addition to the repetitive prayers and pagan chanting beads.

I must have hit a "HOT" button. If they aren't worshiping Mary, then there is no problem. If they are worshiping Mary, well, not even the angels accept worship.

Whatever the actual reason for his excommunication, it was Feeneyism, not Feeney's actions, that were roundly condemned in the letter the Holy Office sent to Cushing in 1949.
To: irishtenor
Eve? The first sinner? The woman who invented Original Sin--i.e., practically invented disease, murder, death, war, pestilence, etc., etc.? She's your candidate for the greatest woman of all time?
To: editor-surveyor
So Catholics call Mary "Queen of Heaven" and "Mother of God?" So what? YOU continue to use the name "god" for your god, even though the Greeks called Zeus a "god" and the Hindus call Vishnu a "god." Does that make you a pagan or a Hindu?
To: irishtenor
I go to God when I need help. You mean you NEVER asked anyone other than God for help? Wow. You must have been a delightful baby for your mother to have around, changing your own diapers and whatnot! Or did God change them until you could do it yourself?
To: Arthur McGowan
Well, she was the first woman sinner, she is also the first mother, the first wife, etc. Who else? All have sinned, even Mary.

When I need spiritual help, of course. By your inference, I should have asked Mary to change me.
