I hated the on LE Modesitt book I tried to read, not necessarily because of the plot (though that was boring, standard fantasy stuff) but because of the writing style. Every character had dialog like this:
"I...err... weel, I don't..."
"You see, it's..."
"There, uh..."
It may be true to life, but it's deadly to read.
