> I'm gonna be a party-pooper and pass on that whole list. The period between the end of the Second Age and, oh, "The Hobbit" is pretty much a blur.... I do much better on Hobbit-lore, and Elf knowledge.

Same here--like I said, that was a hard one.

Okay, since you're better on Hobbit and Elf lore, I'll post one last set of questions on Hobbits and then quit the quiz for the night, since I guess we're not supposed to have a class on Friday nights, LOL! Here are 10 Hobbit questions for the night:

1. What Hobbit was called "muddy feet" by Tom Bombadil?
2. Name the Hobbit who invented the game of golf, and explain how he did it.
3. What was it that the Took family usually hushed up?
4. Give the name of a Shire firm of auctioneers.
5. Which Hobbit families lived in Tightfield?
6. To whom did Bilbo leave an empty bookcase, and why?
7. Who was called Cock-Robin, and what was his duty when Frodo and Sam returned to the Shire?
8. What was Tunnelly?
9. What was the Hobbitish nickname for "stay at home"?
10. Give the village and area of the Eastfarthing where the Bolger family lived.

1. What Hobbit was called "muddy feet" by Tom Bombadil?
I'm going to guess... Sam

2. Name the Hobbit who invented the game of golf, and explain how he did it.
"Bullroarer" Took used a club to knock off the head of the goblin king Golfimbul and it rolled down a rabbit hole. Battle of the Green Fields, I think.

3. What was it that the Took family usually hushed up?
The Tooklings who went away and had adventures and were never seen again.

4. Give the name of a Shire firm of auctioneers.
Grub, Grub and Burrows

5. Which Hobbit families lived in Tightfield?

6. To whom did Bilbo leave an empty bookcase, and why?
Hugo Bracegirdle, because he borrowed books and never returned them. He ought to have been left something nasty.

7. Who was called Cock-Robin, and what was his duty when Frodo and Sam returned to the Shire?
Robin Goodfellow, a Shirrif.

8. What was Tunnelly?

9. What was the Hobbitish nickname for "stay at home"?

10. Give the village and area of the Eastfarthing where the Bolger family lived.
Crickhollow, perhaps?

I think I flunk this one. Oh well :)

The book's answers--you two got quite a few of them right:

1. What Hobbit was called "muddy feet" by Tom Bombadil?

Farmer Maggot.

2. Name the Hobbit who invented the game of golf, and explain how he did it.

Bullroarer Took; he knocked off the head of the Orc king with a wooden club.

3. What was it that the Took family usually hushed up?

The fact that some of their members went on adventures.

4. Give the name of a Shire firm of auctioneers.

Messrs. Grubb, Grubb, and Burrowes.

5. Which Hobbit families lived in Tightfield?

The Gamwiches, the Gammidges, and the Ropers.

6. To whom did Bilbo leave an empty bookcase, and why?

Hugo Bracegirdle, a Hobbit who borrowed books but seldom returned them.

7. Who was called Cock-Robin, and what was his duty when Frodo and Sam returned to the Shire?

Robin Smallburrow; the hobbit of Hobbiton who became a shirriff under Lotho Sackville-Baggins.

8. What was Tunnelly?

A surname used by the Hobbits of Bree.

9. What was the Hobbitish nickname for "stay at home"?

Ranugad.

10. Give the village and area of the Eastfarthing where the Bolger family lived.

Budgeford in Bridgefields.

Whew! I'm all quizzed out for the night! :) Think I've gotta review "Silmarillion" and the appendices to RotK again so I can do better next time I try these questions!--I missed more than you two did :)
