Not just another "Sword of Shannara"/"Belgariad"/"Wheel of Time" thing, I'm sure? What didn't you like about the "Shannara" books? I've read most of them, although I sorta lost count on the last few editions.
Never could really get into the "Belgariad" series. Read a couple (or was it just one?).
Have you read Katherine Kurtzman's "Deryni Chronicles?" I think I may have missed the last of those as well.
Most of these I read pre-marriage/pre-children (yes, in that order).

Msdrby got the latest Deryni novel recently. She's already read it, but I haven't yet. The whole series is mighty good reading.

Well, at the time I read the first "Shannara" book I was about 12 I think, and at that age I found it entertaining, but I found too many places where I felt like Brooks was just taking Tolkien's settings and characters and plot motifs and renaming them. I did enjoy some of the original elements of the book and the writing style, though--Brooks is a good writer. I read the first three books in the series back then, and more recently I read his novelization of "Phantom Menace", which was a lot better-written than the movie, I thought.

There is a new one. Saw it in the store right after Christmas. It was okay. I liked some of the older novels better.
I sold almost all of my Stephen King, Belgariad, and Deryni books to the half-price store when I moved out of mom's house. The only ones I have left are the hard backs. Now, I wish I had them for reference with this new Deryni novel.
