I HATE canned peas!
My mom wouldn't let me down from the table till I ate my helpin' of canned peas. Now what kind of nonsense is that? I HATED them! Would I make you eat something you hated? It was a power trip thing.
I usually would just sit there and cry.
Then I figured it out. I asked "Can I be excused?" "When you eat your peas." she'd reply. I'd stuff the entire helping in my mouth and then dash outside, spit them out behind a shrub. Or I'd say..."I gotta go to the bathroom." Stuff them in, spit them out in the toilet.
It was ridiculous. I don't do that to my kids. Gee, I spend 29 cents for a can of peas...they eat plenty of everything else I could care less if they don't eat the peas. I'm not forcing them to eat.
My mom has tried with Matthew...tried to make him eat spaghetti with onions chopped up in it and I gave her my "look" and said "Stop it." She was kinda mad...but she stopped.
I don't serve things that anyone in my family (Steve or the boys) finds revolting. It's easy to find things that we all like.
Funny though...I used to say "I'll never have a pea in my house!" Wouldn't ya know it...Joshua loves them.

Frozen peas are better.
Heheh...that's my problem with vegetables now. We had basically a "truck farm" when I was growing up. Shoot...the NC Dept of Agriculture had our 1 acre lot (with a big garden) classified as a farm fercryinoutloud! We had lots of fresh vegetables and canned or froze what we couldn't eat right away.
Now when I go shopping and look at some of the stuff in the produce department I don't see a thing I'd have! :)

I don't mind fresh or frozen ones, so long as they are served with plenty o' butter! But the canned ones...I've never so much as looked at a can at the store since I've been on my own, and I've certainly never bought 'em!
My parents never forced me to eat anything. But I can remember trying to eat the things, with the thought that I might learn to like 'em. Makes me gag just thinking about it. Very few things can literally make me gag, but those are one of 'em!

Was the same way with canned spinach and with cooked squash. I still don't like squash that much, but it isn't anathema anymore.

My mom wouldn't let me down from the table till I ate my helpin' of canned peas.I always heard you should make you kids eat their veggies. When Paul, our first, was about 3 1/2, we had carrots for supper. He kep fiddling around and didn't eat them. He and I sat there for almost an hour until he finished them. He promply threw them up all over the table. Porrl little thing, I felt SO bad! Since then, I put the veggies on their plates, but NEVER forced them to eat them. We make sure they take a vitamin each day, and I figure when they're grown they may try some of the things they never liked before. Heck, I was adult before I ever ate cabbage, broccoli, or cantaloupe again, now I love em!
