"I'm trying to build a romantic subplot into the novel I'm writing in order to make it more interesting for female readers" Well, if you can actually figure out what interests "female readers," or really what interests just females, as opposed to what females want males to think interests them, you will be doing pretty good.
Morning everyone.

Good morning, Sam! How are ya? I got a headache and the room is spinning a bit faster than usual, but the day is sunny, the coffee is good and I'm very optimistic about the future!

Women want to read about men who are true, and upright, and do the right thing, even when it's difficult. And they should be competent, perhaps with an edge (or more) of danger.
I have another book for you, Fedora --- Dangerous Men & Adventurous Women: Romance Writers on the Appeal of the Romance, edited by Jayne Ann Krentz.
