Looks like our #2 is seriesly considering UT Austin for Grad school! He'll be down there the last weekend in March to check the place out. He's going over to UMass Amherst this Friday. They've offerend him a great financial package, so he's waiting to see what UT's gonna come up with. I think they'll give him that info when he comes for the visit.

He didn't want to have to fool with a car; is there public transportation, or could he get around for the most part on a bike?

When I went to school there (okay it was in the dark ages) I just used public transportation because there is so little parking available around campus.

Oh, downtown Austin is bike heaven! Bike lanes, bike racks on the front of the buses .... heck, there are even city-owned loaner bikes, painted acid yellow and carried on the fronts of the buses, that anyone can use at any time.

Austin is Libby heaven ... watch for them to come out with their own gay marriage declaration in the next few days, after tomorrow's election.

Having said that, the northern part of Austin, and Williamson County, is Conservative-ville. We're having an election tomorrow, and the campaign signs are crowded at every intersection up here. You can easily tell the Dim-bulbs from the Pubbs ... the Republicans' signs say "Republican" in big letters, and the Democrats' signs are innocent of party affiliation. One guy, whose signs are blue with white lettering, has taken to sticking bright yellow "Pro-Gun" and "Pro-Life" labels on his signs.

Ah, Austin is a wacky place ...!
