My 2 kids were only 6 and 7 lbs at birth.

My twin brother and me weighed 3 and a half or 4 pounds each, 'course we were born back in the 1940's. Mom said she could hold each of us in the palm of a hand, just like a couple of chicken eggs.

Even *I* have too many kids / teenager books...for just in case. They aren't easily replaceable!

What are your favorite ones? I think mine were Dr. Seuss, those Richard Scarry books with the cool cutaway scenes, and Curious George, among others I'd have to dredge the memory to think of--and my comic books, of course :)

I'm not actually a bowhunter, or even a very skilled hunter at all, as I took it up rather late in life, though I do enjoy it immensely. The last couple times I went in the woods was for black powder season, lot less folks in the way, I like it like that. I shoot an inline rifle, which is very accurate.

If I ever get more time for hunting, I'll probably take up the bow. I'm considering building one or two, if I can get some advice from Osagebowman on it. Osage gave me some help on constructing an atlatl and darts, which was terrific fun.

Elf-boy is a LOTR nut. He has seen the movies many more times than I have, except for ROTK ~that one I won't let him see yet since he is only 5.

Has he seen the Rankin-Bass RotK cartoon? I bet he'd like it:

The other day he informed me that he liked the Bakshi film (shudder) better than the Jackson film. The only reason I can find is that it is possibly because one is cartoon, and the other is not.

Hmm--I'd have to think about how I would have evaluated the two films at that age. I think if you're a kid and haven't read the book, Bakshi is very entertaining. He actually did a good job with certain scenes, notably the scene with the Black Riders in the Shire, which Jackson actually drew from in developing his version of that scene. As a kid I think that scene and Moria were what hooked me--Bakshi did those parts well enough that I was entertained despite the various other stuff he screwed up. I guess Tolkien is so good that no matter how bad you screw up adapting him there's still something there :)

I was in trouble for a while this morning Sam. I misplaced my 3 foot pointing stick that I can beat 'em with. All is well now. I found the stick. They are behaving.

True, when I saw the Bakshi version, after having seen PJ's, I imme(sneeze)dia(sneeze)te(sneeze)ly noticed how similar they were.

No, though I'm kind of partial to Indiana Jones', LOL! :) My screen name is from the code name of a famous Cold War spy. I picked that screen name because I'm into history and one thing I do a lot of research in is the Cold War, esp. the Venona decrypts and related stuff.

Actually.... it is this new program that I'm having to teach that I literally *hate*. It was never very friendly when I had to use it at work, therefore we rarely used it. Now, one company in town wants it taught and I have to do it. It will not cooperate with my computer set-up for all the other classes I have to teach.

My work study tech and I have found work-around solutions but bottom line is - it's gonna cost and the dean doesn't see why. *sheesh*

I honestly think the war against competition and excellence is a conscious effort on the part of the Left to destroy excellence in America and perhaps Western Civilization.

Without competition and / or hard work, there can be no excellence, IMO. Only a middling mediocrity.

Uh... no... the company went to the dean and asked her to change my program for this. The dean agreed. It oughtta fall in her lap and she oughtta have to answer for her decision.
