Me, too!--also wish I knew Welsh and Old English and a few other languages so I could follow the rhythms in Elvish better. BTW I have found one computer language tutorial with a nice introduction to basic Finnish:

Yes--his gift for language was amazing. I was reading through a list of the languages he knew once and I couldn't believe how long it was. I heard he even translated the Book of Jonah from Hebrew into Japanese!--my mind reels.

Well, at the time I read the first "Shannara" book I was about 12 I think, and at that age I found it entertaining, but I found too many places where I felt like Brooks was just taking Tolkien's settings and characters and plot motifs and renaming them. I did enjoy some of the original elements of the book and the writing style, though--Brooks is a good writer. I read the first three books in the series back then, and more recently I read his novelization of "Phantom Menace", which was a lot better-written than the movie, I thought.

I never thought of it that way, but yeah, that sounds like how I'm looking at it--I like the way you put it.

Me, too, LOL! I've been putting it off for years, but after seeing these movies I've finally been inspired to start putting it down on paper.

Hey, all... permit me to indulge in a bit of nostalgia...

I started a project this morning to transfer our collection of videotapes to video-CDs. I started with our Babylon 5 tapes. As I was watching them, I realized we had taped them from the original broadcast. I got curious, and looked up the original air date from one of the best sources for B5 info on the web, The Lurker's Guide to Babylon 5. The episodes I transferred were originally broadcast in November, 1994... the tapes are nearly 10 years old.

Checking a little further, I found that the 11th anniversary of the broadcast of B5's pilot episode, "The Gathering", is just five days away. I remember watching it with Rose, back in our old apartment. I believe my comment at the time was along the lines of, "Interesting, but it needs some work."

Of course, I didn't realize at the time how big a part of our lives the show would become... we became such fans that we travelled to conventions to see the creator of the show (J. Michael Straczynski) speak. For a time, Rose wrote a magazine column about games based on the show. We even formed our own business (RoseBear Enterprises, Inc.) to sell licensed products based on the show.

(sigh) I didn't realize how long ago that was becoming.

Here is my nostalgia... I have been looking through my Mom's special things she kept in her trunk, initially to look at her wedding dress again. I know I can't fit in it, it is VEY tiny. Like.... a size 3. Sonya couldn't zip it and she is as thin as I could ever think of being.

But I am trying to figure out how to use it at all in my wedding.... If I can't wear it, can it perhaps be cut down to fit a flower girl? Would that be neat?

The mystery I have been wondering about is the other little dress that was in her trunk. I don't know what it is, and neither does my Dad remember it. It is a pretty little dress, we just don't know what it remembers.

Anyone have suggestions on how to clean these if I use them? They are both yellowed, the little one especially. Dry clean? - Special instructions? The wedding dress is satin, the little one is lace over satin or taffeta)

I also have old old table linens, also yellowed with age... some my mother's, some my grandmother's. I am told those can just be laundered with bleach. Suggestions?
