The Hobbit Hole VI - And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...

Posted on 01/31/2004 9:52:08 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

When did that whole thing take place? I only have a vague idea of what happened, and I'm not sure I WANT a clearer picture.

Hair; hoping the Labs win tonight, and black and tan for the hound. :-)

Rosie; oh yeah, big time.

G'nite all.

Ruh-roh...

Maybe I could dig a cave in a snowbank and hide there with my hobbit knife ready?

Opened it one handed at work the other day without thinking...someone gave us a loaf of bread and we didn't have any other knife. My boss just stared at me with his mouth open for a sec, and then said "Hey...anytime you want time off...go ahead!"

I'm gettin' good at it. *snap* *click* *snap* *click*

1969.... If you get a chance to see a documentary on TV about it, check it out.... Basically, Manson had a Jesus complex... Looks a little crazy to me, but people followed him and he led these people from pretty normal backgrounds to do horrific things ~for~ him.

A quick search found this summary that rattles off the basics. 30 years later, Manson cult thrives

The trial was in 1970 to 71. He led a cult that murdered a dozen or so people, including the most famous of them the family of Sharon Tate, an actress.

He never actually killed anyone, but exercised complete brainwashed control over his "family" of followers. They did all the killings at his command. Lynette "squeaky" Fromme, who later made an attempt on the life of President Ford, was one of his "family" that had been let out of jail.

You may not really want to know the details, or I'd post a link. Google, however will show more than enough.

It was pretty funny...just his expression. I pulled it outta my back pocket and flicked it open. Of course, the *snap* adds to the drama...

I like my knife.

I haven't weighed 180 pounds in - Oh, wait, you were talking about the dog.

Never mind.

OK, I'm gonna go read for a bit before sleep. Dreading tomorrow somewhat, though...since the people who were out today will be back and likely not real happy with one another. Sigh. At least I'm not on either side.

On the other hand, that may not be the easiest position, either. But I like all the folks I work with, so I really hope they calm down soon!

The made-for-tv movie "Helter Skelter" (based on Bugliosi's book of the same name) covers the Manson matter pretty well, with a chilling performance by Steve Railsback as Manson.

IIRC, the stopped-watch story was included in the movie.

Was it? Cool... I went to see him speak that time in college, but I never did read the book or see the movie.

Sharon Tate being the wife of Roman Polanski, the child molester in French exile. Sharon was killed in 1969, and he raped the 13-year-old in 1974 or 1975.

In the "I don't deserve a neurotic abandonment-disorder dog dept: New bandage for fresh damage.... ecurbh spraying the "bitter apple" spray on it so she wont chew the bandage off, and Gidget looking incredibly pathetic and abused.

Poor Gidget... I don't remember if I asked this before, but did she chew on herself when Logan and Zulu were there?

Yes - She did... From time to time... Maybe less often than now, but I am not sure she ever got ~all that much~ comfort from them. They were a unit, but she was more bonded to me. Started when I was gone alot. They'd go in the doghouse and sleep when I was gone, and she would sit alone by the gate. Now, it'll heal for awhile, then she'll start again. But jeepers!-We are both home all day now. It is just a nervous habit like nail biting. It makes me crazy!

The funny part was that Gidget was left with my Dad for the Entmoot week... and the chewing/licking thing never happened all that week. It actually healed.

Maybe it is Hair that's stressing her out? :-) Just kidding... :-)
