The Hobbit Hole VI - And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...

Posted on 01/31/2004 9:52:08 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

They say theirs are potty trained! - I think it can be done within limits.... Not sure their bodies are set up to hold it long. It is probably a matter of diet control and timing too!

Oh yeah. I get laughed at a little because I keep a fork hanging on the wall outside my mare's stall - as soon as she produces anything, I go in and carry it away before she steps in it and kicks it all over the stall.

She has the routine down pat - even uses one corner now and steps aside as soon as I enter. I think she likes it better clean - and it's easier on the shavings.

Do y'all use shavings or straw in the Pac NW? Sitting in the middle of pulpwood territory like we do, everybody uses shavings because they are actually FREE if you go to the mill to fetch them.

Well, I'm off to church. Wish me luck - first time singing in choir in new church (and they put me in the tenor section as an Emergency Temporary Tenor -- eeeek!)

Shavings...Shavings are cheap if you have dry storage for a dumptruck full.... I don't, so I pay a premium for it in plastic bales.. I don't like to clean stalls with straw.

Both of mine are relatively tidy, mostly pooping just in one spot. The pony is a little more precise than Bay is about her poo, but she pees right in the center. Bay's big feature is that he won't pee inside. Sounds like an excellent characteristic (and it is for cleaning!) till he is pounding to get out and go at 5 in the morning 'cuz he's been holding it all night.

How are you and LSAggie this morning? Thinking about you. It must be quiet. Will you walk anyway in the morning, or did you walk for her?

You I hope at least feel good about what you did to make Samantha's life the best when she was here. That is all we can do when their lives are so short!

Morning OT; what do make of the weather forecast? From 6"-12" of snow to 1/4 inch of ice and 2" of snow to .4 inch of ice and 4"-6" of snow in a 24 hour period. Well, no matter, the snow, ice, rain will fall regardless of our personal feelings about it.

Most of our section at work made plans to work at home Monday if we got the big snow. Got my reports on the table. We'll see what happens tonight.

Morning....finished up my last coffee spoon this morning.

Guess we'll see what happens. Right now we're getting freezing rain with a few flakes mixed in. I'll just wait and see as far as work goes tomorrow. I don't have anything to do there that's urgent enough to riske ending up in a ditch.

I've taken some advice from my former supervisor: After the big ice storm in NC last year he got his power back in only 5 hours because he had a cell phone tower nearby. I've got one practically across the street.

Hair; yes, it's quiet, a short walk and got some more fish wrap (aka KC Star) for the coupons, travel and auto sections.

We walked daily for a couple of years before we got Samantha, and will continue. We find it relaxing and healthful, and much easier and far cheaper than a gym membership, all that is needed is good pair of shoes. :-)

Our "shire" takes about an hour to walk per quadrant. It's only a small part of the city now, having grown from 16,000 to 70,000 in the 27 years we've lived here.

OT: wow, you sure made the spoons last quite a while. RE: cell tower, good idea. We used to have a substation down the street, but it was consolidated when the new one was built across town An office building is there now.

Coffee Spoons are for weekends when I can savor them properly.

My uncle's house is a block away from the power company's office....he had his power back on REAL quick!

The outfit that trains this pony have got to be the same one that got a little bit of bad press last year when pony pooped on the plane.

Good morning...

In fact, it was the same pony! here's the story, with more pictures of Cuddles.

Heck, anyone could have an accident during a long wait...

Mornin'

OBM, LSA, I got up thinkin' of ya'll this mornin' too when I put Smeagol out. She's had some extra special treats here since your news yesterday. My heart just works that way. Think I've said before that she's one who got rescued from miscreants who abused her.

I suppose I'm just too soft a touch for anybody that's been mistreated and hurt. I woulda never picked a little dog myself, but a friend rescued Smeagol. She didn't get along at all with my friend's 4 other dogs and needed to be an "only." On top of that Myranda just fell in love with her at first sight. She's quite a disagreeable brat at times (said with all kinds of affection.) She came to us with a different name. I named her Smeagol cause of the personality. She answers to it. (as well as Fruit Loop and the original name!) I don't know her age but I know she's getting on up there. She'll be well taken care of for the rest of her days too though.

Back again everyone. Sunday evening here. Most of us went to Chapel services today, as this is the first Sunday we have had off in months. Beautiful day here. Sunny and 60 till about 4:00 then the clouds came. Looks like rain tonight, and on the road again tommorrow. See Ya'll later.

WN; it has been said that 'often we don't pick the dog, the dog picks us.'

Think I'll make some sawdust. It isn't quite so cold in the basement today.

It was a nice relaxing day, but there is not much to do here, so the day last forever. Still nice though. Tommorrow is business as usual.

Was out fishing all day in the rain in the Gulf Stream yesterday. There was an interclub sailfish tournament going on, in which our club was participating, so we had to go.

A nice ocean, though, about 15 knots of breeze, which is enough to raise whitecaps and 4-6 foot rolling seas in the Gulf Stream. A very pleasant and beautiful ocean.

We personally did not get a sail, but one of us caught a nice dolphin, a portion of which will get sauted for Jeanne's birthday dinner tonight.

There were a lot of flying fish in the air at one spot, Kim, several miles out from Stiltsville in about 89 - 100 feet of water. We looked over and saw, about 50 yards away, a flock of several hundred flying fish in the air, going like hell. Knew there were predators under them, swimming fast right under them, just under the surface, a thrilling sight. Anyway, we pulled a nice dolphin out of that melee.

Hmm, looking down at the desk, I think there are ghost ants living in the keyboard.
