What's the 2J shimmy for? :) The newbie is confused, though amused :)

Cause Wneighbor is tired of being the one who talks the most *all* the time!

Your post number is the same upside-down as right-side-up.

Whoah--no way!

I bet there's, like, a hidden message there--you know, like playing Stairway to Heaven backwards or something. Maybe we can get Socrates to figure it out--he's, like, a philosopher dude, he's pretty smart.

By the way, how does it feel to have made 13.35% of last week's posts to the thread?

Sniff--I couldn't have done it without the Lord, my Mom, and Elvis. . .and I'd also like to thank my agent--and my producer--and the best boy--and the gaffer--and the special effects people at ILM--and my high-school drama teacher (goes on for 10 minutes like Halle Berry at Oscars). . .

I went and found the post where the Mods explained the "thing about big threads". It was not a post here, but rather a post in the Daily Terror Threat Thread.... People were complaining that they were told to start a new thread at 15,000 when the Hobbit Hole had been allowed to get a lot bigger than that.

The last comment about locking is what happened later to our ~last~ thread. They aren't upset at us.... but good to keep them happy.

Thank you.

What I was just demonstrating is what happens when we have to remove a comment on a thread that has several thousands of replies.

I just removed the two replies before this post here, and that is what caused that slowdown.

Some seem to think we just locked that other thread for the fun of it. No, there is a glitch with removing replies on threads that are that big. And considering that this thread had been attracting some trolls, and attracting some returning bannees, and had some flamewars occasionally erupting, we couldn't continually bring the site to a standstill to clean things up.

That is why it was locked.

As for why the Hobbit Hole thread has not had such a fate, simply put, it hasn't required us to remove many comments. We'll probably have to lock it soon. I only hope that me explaining this will not cause some to go and post crap on it in an effort to get it locked.

Thanks for your help in the demonstration. LM

The really neat thing about my spam attack is that in addition to 10,000, I also got 9,999 and 10,001.

A quadruple Precious, a four-of-a-kind, and a palindrome (a binary number palindrome, at that) all in one spam!

My night is complete!

9 comments were removed on HH3: Comment #3644, Comment #28178, Comment #28183, Comment #28185, Comment #28190, Comment #28192, Comment #36224, Comment #38557, and Comment #45655. Never a word about those removals causing slowdowns. I would think that if there had been a problem then, removing post #45655 would have revealed it.

Doesn't it make you a little wistful to know we will never see post numbers that high again?

I think it was frequent abuse reports on the Terror thread that made them get in there several times a day that brought it to the forefront. I don't think it will ~ever~ be a frequent issue here. I think they locked our thread in an effort to look "fair". If you look back through their original thread, as I did because I was pinged to the debate a couple times, there was considerable hostility (thread envy) about how big our thread was.... Accusations of unfair treatment.
