Not only did I have Barbie and Ken, I had Midge, Skipper, the dreamhouse.....the whole nine!
I grew up rural Ohio in the 50s and 60s, in a family where women were respected and protected.
I guess that's why reality eventually hit me in the face, so to speak.
Dating now sure does show you that this has changed, doesn't it?
"Too late."
That's okay, Laz. I don't believe in long engagements, but but I do prefer to warm my hands before jumping into a fire. That 1 second thing...well, it's just a tad hasty.
Yeah, that does seem to be a problem sometimes, but when you consider the alternative, wel, it's just kinda pointless to be any other way.
A close friend of mine found his current spouse in Russia and have been quit happy now her in the U.S. for approx. 2 years now.
His divorce settlement, at the height of the recession, devastated his potential retirement funds and his current employer offers no pension plan. If he can not live comfortably on whatever wealth he can accumulate in the next 10 years, he intends to relocate to the Ukraine where by their standards whatever income he has will allow them to live quite comfortably there......
If you think that there is a relationship in the world that doesn't require both parties to change in very fundamental ways to make it work, you're wrong. Yes guys, you are going to have to change. Habits, perceptions, knee-jerk reactions, time management... sometimes even diet. And yes girls. YOU, ALSO, WILL HAVE TO CHANGE. In the best relationships, both parties willingly change for the better and are happier for it.
Women see the flaws in their men easier than they can admit their own. That is OUR biggest flaw. (Actually, I believe that is a human flaw, but I digress...) Thus, many times we're right about what the husband has to change. The problem is, too much of the time we drop our end of the couch in that department.
Indeed. Thats why I married an Illinois girl..
That's what I keep telling my daughter. In a family of 4'10' - 5'5" ladies, NONE of us have had trouble finding a man when we want one.
Maybe it made me the wife that I am today!
I would be embarassed to say how long I've been celibate, but since I don't think of recreational sex as a viable option and I don't consider men interchangeable, I guess I will stay that way for the time being.
A lot of them make all the wrong choices in 'men', in part, because of their own collection of issues that kinda drives making those bad decisions ...
I can testify to that in, oh, three, maybe four people (women) I have known and continue, in a couple of cases, see on an irregular basis ...
Largely, though, I'd say it was the women who have 'screwed up' our society - those vocal, few feminists who have basically emasculated (literally: deprived a man of his male role or identity) the male in media/movies and to which the pop culture public pays some fair amount of attention to the detriment of our society as men 'lose' their ability to fulfill their role ...
A 'move' should have been made earlier by you gals to put those feminist hussies in their place early on and we most likely wouldn't be having this discussion!
(I just finished cooking a marvelous casserole for dinner using stewed tomatoes in place of just tomato sauce (I also used a can of tomato paste!) and served with sour cream or plain yogurt it tastes just *wonderful*!)
Everyone changes, and a couple who want to be together will change.
My point is there is something wrong with going into a relationship with the express intention of changing the other person.
I had a decent collection, and wish I still had them today.
Now, I'll settle for playing golf (with DH), watching a baseball game with DH, and baking desserts for both of us.
Wonder what the Russian men are like? If all their women are absconding here, just think of all the hunky Russian men who are available and ready to relocate!.......;)
Now, I can step up, and work on inspiring and influencing those who are younger, and having to work through te liberal tripe.
