Well folks, it's that time of year again. Tom Ridge and the people at DHS have received the analysis of the chatter gathered by NRO, DIA, and other assorted alphabet agencies and it appears that the Rags have decided to do the whole Grinch thing.
Naturally, Americans can be an awfully accomodating bunch, in that 72 virgins kind of way, so I was wondering that given that the threat board just went to orange, what are the Best Practices for carry, ammunition, and accessories during this period. In other words, are you stuck with your 9mm when you're going about your Christmas shopping, or should one carry the 12 guage in the gun rack.
I'm serious, folks. I'm not being facetious. It only sounds that way. I have been expecting terrorists to make guerilla style attacks and acts of sabotage in the U.S. for two years now as an expression of Islamic "manhood". Unfortunately for them, there's something called the Second Amendment. So this thread is for practical suggestions for carry and concealment, choice of firearms and ammunition in a low intensity warfare environment, and of course, best practices for small unit tactics in case you run into the Madrass Jihad for Allah (as opposed to, say, the Campus Crusade for Christ).
Be Seeing You,
Chris
You can pack just a little more powder behind the 30-06 if you are so inclined.
But now that I've said that, when I had my Girand re-barreled, I had it done in .308. Its just more common these days. When I had it re-barreled, you could buy match ammo cheaper in .308 than in .30-06. I haven't priced match ammo lately so I don't know if that still holds true.
?Red, WTF. Same to me.
Got my spine, I got my Orange Crush.
Get it for her. It's absolutely one of the most reliable handguns out there.
A Sig P239 also wouldn't be a bad choice.
But if you're considering becoming an unofficial "first responder" to an incident, that opens up a whole case of worm cans. Then you should consider a 12 guage if that suits you, or a Sport Utility Rifle in .556mm, 7.62 Russian, or 7.62 Nato.
Just remember that as you go dashing in to engage the jihadis before they can kill more innocents, the first arriving police are likely to shoot you if they see you holding a weapon, before they sort out who's who.
I believe that there are barriers that will frag a hollowpoint before they reach their target. Sometimes, people wear things that hollowpoints don't work well with. Like a heavy wool coat over a cotton Chamois shirt and a thermal undershirt. I can't say that the combination will stop a bullet, but premature expansion through thick clothing is likely with some expanding ammo. It doesn't hurt to have something that doesn't expand interspaced with the expanding stuff. IMHO, of course...
Sheesh. Do not OVERLOOK Glock for concealed carry. I like the 36 myself. Glock is THE gun for both the local Sheriff department and police.
And be REAL careful holstering it...
Carry weapon: Glock 30 loaded with Federal 230 gr. Hydrashoks. And it goes everywhere I go.
Assorted other autos include Wilson Combat CQB, Para-Ord P14 Ltd., Sig P245 and lots more Glocks (I forget how many). All loaded the same.
My Glock 19 and Springfield XD9 are loaded up with Cor-Bon 9mm 124 +Ps (for the little woman -- and she knows how to put 'em where they belong).
Remington 870 is loaded with Federal 00 buckshot with slugs on the side saddle. Mossberg 500 loaded the same.
I've got SS-109s loaded in the AR and if I really need to reach out and touch someone, there's my M1A packing Federal 150 gr. .308 ammo.
A good idea is to have different weapons in different locations in case you have to bug out in a hurry. So, I'm set up in Nevada and Arizona in case Kali gets untenable. That is, more untenable than it already is.
Awesome weapon. My regular shooting partner has one. And it's good for a lot further than 500 yards in the hands of the right shooter.
And be REAL careful holstering it...
As a Glock-head, i can agree with the first half. As a gun owner, I can agree with the second half. I would never "Mexican" carry my glock unless the tube was empty. I have back-pocket carried with an empty barrel before, but that's not my normal mode of operation.
Very kewl Pic NT...........Stay Safe !
That's smart.
I got my Girand pretty Cheap in the early '80's, but the barrel was shot smooth and it was pitted. I had not choice but to re-barrel. At the time, my friend was shooting match with his M-14 (a great gun) and had a good line on .308 so I followed suit and rebarreled in the same caliber. It works fine in that mode, though I had one errant clip that wouldn't handle the slightly shorter cartridge.
