Word For The Day, Friday, December 19, 2003

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. Practice makes perfect.....post on....

amatory \ah*meh*tow*ree\, adjective:
amatorious; adjective
amatoriously; adverb
amatoriousness; noun

1. Pertaining to, producing, or expressing, sexual love; as, amatory potions. [Obs.]
2. Expressive of or exciting sexual love or romance

The Autumnal Recrudescence of the Amatory Urge

When the birds are cacaphonic in the trees and on the verge
Of the fields in mid-October when the cold is like a scourge.
It is not delight in winter that makes feathered voices surge,
But autumnal recrudescence of the amatory urge.

When the frost is on the punkin' and when leaf and branch diverge,
Birds with hormones reawakened sing a paean, not a dirge.
What's the reason for their warbling? Why on earth this late-year splurge?
The autumnal recrudescence of the amatory urge.

--Susan Stiles, copyright December 1973

Etymology [Latin am t rius, from am tor, lover. See amateur.]

The campaign staff of Dennis Kucinich decided that he needs a wife, so they inducted a nearly random female for one amatorious night. Instead of getting a potential mate, he landed a butch with a live-in boyfriend only interested in talking politics. The funny thing is that she looked more masculine than Kucinich. Also, if you type Kucinich into MSN search, the first result reads "Kucinich gives spirited defense of gay marriage (San Francisco Chronicle - Dec. 17". That's some pretty good stuff, if you ask me!

It is so funny when dogs freak out on inanimate objects. I hung another wreath on the front gate yesterday-when I let Husky girl out when I got home, she ran toward the gate, just like she always does. The plastic ribbon on the wreath was rattling and waving in the wind, and when she saw it, she started barking frantically, then turned around and ran back inside. When I hung the wreath on the outside of the back door, she sat in the hall and stared at it through the glass for nearly half an hour.

The first wreath I put on the outside of the gate was a hay one I made-I got some loose hay at the feed store, bunched it up and wrapped it with florist's wire and ribbon, then glued some red bows and pine cones on it, and hung it up. My next door neighbor complimented me on it, even. Yesterday morning when I went out to my car, I saw that the ground in front of the gate was littered with little red bows and pine cones-the deer had eaten the hay wreath, leaving the wire and ribbon still hanging on the gate. Ungrateful creatures-it isn't like I don't feed them.

"Ask xs the truth

I know you do too

Ah....

But I suspect she finds you inflamatory too!

Let's face it. She has the hots for you.

(Or at least her paper plate does.)

I should have known better than to put anything edible where those deer could reach it-they ate the bale of hay in my autumn decoration by the gate earlier this fall -they even nibbled the scarecrow sitting on top of it.

It seems to me that all you see
Is violence in movies and sex on TV
But where are those good ol'-fashion values
On which we use to rely

Lucky is the Conspiracy guy who
Positively can do
All the things that make you
Laugh and cry

He's a Conspiracy guy

***Ok kiddos which tv them song did I copy and alter.?
