Someone with more time and motivation than I have might ask it at the urban legend site and let them do the checking.
That would at least generate more interest and if true, be a great validation reference.

I think at this point, the troops can likely take care of themselves.
Leaders would be loathe to punish and generate bad morale over THAT issue!

Well since everything transmitted on ATC frequencies are recorded I doubt this was broadcasted by anyone. Would be quite the embarrassment to have the tapes pulled because of an incident and have this heard.. Would still be funny tho..
