The Thermos idea is a good one, though! Next time I'm over at Wal-Mart I'll have to check those out.

Someone needs to invent plastic food containers with a screw-on lid. Why is that so hard?

Well, I guess when I've seen people do that they don't care if it's melted before they heat it... guess you have to freeze it in a microwave-safe container, though.

I have seen plastic containers with screw on lids. Aunt Cheryl has some. I don't know where she got them, but they do exist. Like you said, she uses them to put Uncle Lynn's soup or leaky stuff in for his lunch.
