Heh, I took typing and shorthand in high school as well. I was just wondering if you were teaching fingers on the home keys, which fingers reach for which keys, etc.

"Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing" is a good program for practicing "proper" typing technique, by the way.

Yes, I'm teaching the home keys, and showing him which fingers go to which keys. But I'm not doing drills. With Matthew's brain, I don't think he needs it. He is already typing the home keys without even looking at the keyboard.

We've been working off and on with this for a while, but he seems now to developmentally gotten to the point where he can actually do it.

Our kids are using that program! We got Joseph a Pocket PC for his birthday, and we may get him a fold up keyboard so he can take notes on it when he goes to high school next year. Then when he gets home, he can just download it all into his computer at home! He'd much rather do that than have to WRITE to take notes! I told him in order to do that, he has to learn to type quickly without looking at the keys!
