The Hobbit Hole V - Where Many Paths and Errands Meet...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Where Many Paths and Errands Meet...
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Don't matter to me. I don't eat 'em. I just buy 'em for other folks.
As far as I'm concerned, crab meat only comes in crab cakes...or crab bisque...
To: Corin Stormhands
I can count on one hand the number of crab cakes I've had since I've been out here and I remain unimpressed. But being from a land-locked state where we're rightfully suspicious of 'seafood' (who knows how long it's been out of the water by the time it gets there) I don't know if I'd recognize good seafood if I ever did et it.
But these Marylanders... they love their crabs.

Yech. What an icky thought. Speaking of which, didja read the thread about the stash of old, smallpox scabs someone found in a book? Double yech.

I would perish if I didn't have access to fresh seafood, but that is only because I have been spoiled rotten living in Florida almost my whole life.
The shrimp and crab in the Keys is soooooooooo good! And I once had an Oysters Rockerfeller so fresh, the oyster had a small pearl in it!

Well, it is very good for you. Societies that make seafood the mainstay are the healthiest.
I just can't get over what gets dumped in the Bay that those critters live off of. There was a period of time a couple summers ago where raw sewage kept getting dumped into a tributary. The news reports would soft pedal it saying, "only x many gallons were released this time". Kinda takes yer appetite away. However, I do try to be adventurous- I'll sample anything at least once. I'm just not converted to seafood yet. :(

Eating crab any other way than cracking it out of the shell yourself is blaspheme, and chopping it into cakes or otherwise mixing it and battering it is sacrilege .... But then, I only eat it fresh! Wish I could bring fresh dungeness.

You'd fit in well here!
Me, I only get picky about tamales (homemade, green corn, fresh masa, steamed), enchiladas (green chile, stacked), and salsa (tomatillas, no vinegar).

Heh....let's see you get a live crab through security.
To: Lil'freeper
Now I'm getting hungry.
I think I'll try to sneak out of here.
My brain is fried anyway.

Most of the seafood here is either farmed or fished out of the ocean and since Florida has such strict EPA regulations, I don't worry much about sewage or poisins in the seawater.
I'd hesitate to eat anything out of a lake or canal here though. *shudder*

There's a seafood place within walking distance of the castle from what I understand, but I would have no problem picking up some fresh jumbo shrimp and maybe even some fresh snow crab legs at the supermarket to save money.
Can you imagine sitting out on the deck munching on peel-n-eat shrimp and crab legs, tossing the shells in a bucket as the ocean roars a few feet away?
*sigh* Less than 48 hours now....

Oddly enough, to those who know me, I do as well.
(My friends busted on me for being too civilised when I eat. I have to have a napkin or such nearby, and actually use it. Much to the amusement of my friends...)
Just something satisfying about tearing your dinner apart to eat it.
