The Hobbit Hole V - Where Many Paths and Errands Meet...
ecurbh

Posted on 12/11/2003 2:07:57 PM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Where Many Paths and Errands Meet...

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Many of our generation will be going through those gyrations in the coming years; did we do the right thing, should we have kept our folks at home longer? We can only make the decisions we know to be the best at the time, and if we do those with love toward our parents we will be doing the right thing.

Our family had decided that we'd keep Mama home as long as we possibly could, and we were able to do that for almost 5 yrs. Several things happened at once to change that. She went through a health crisis, and her caretaker didn't think she could handle the increased responsibilities, which was true. At that point, Mama didn't think her home was 'home', so we realized it didn't matter where she was as long as she was being cared for. It was a blessing for us that the Adventist Health Center just outside of Hattiesburg had one opening. The Center Director came down to the coast to evaluate Mama, and in two days she was in her new digs. We were fortunate because there can be a very long wait sometimes for openings.

I'm glad you've resolved it for yourself Rose; I'm sure you did the best thing for your Mamma that you could. It's really hard on 'only' children because you don't have any backup. That's why my sister has already told her son that if he feels she needs to go into a nursing home, just find her a nice one! She won't be laying any guilt trips on him.

Hi There! It was great meeting you at Entmoot, I'm just sorry you were feeling so icky! Is your husband over his bout with it, yet?

13 degrees here.

Yeah, but with the way that wind is howling out there it feels more like -10!! Our recycling container blew over in one of the gusts during the early morning, and Clare and Joseph had to go down the street picking up our cans and bottles!

Ugh...tell me about it. I get so unmotivated to do anything when it's frigid like this. I'm dreading this weekend, as Saturday is pretty much all-day errands, and Sunday I have to help my brother move.

In warmer weather, I dont' mind doing these sorts of things, but in weather like this...forget it. It's just such a hassle.

(Very eager to see TRON and Blade Runner on dvd...

Both are great, but there's a caveat on Blade Runner. The Director's Cut does NOT have that 'film noir' voiceover by Harrison Ford the same way the original theatrical version did. I really LIKED the voiceover, too! So just check to see which one you get. Netflix is pretty good about identifying the versions.

I had planned to buy some stock in Netflix when it went public, but I think the price has already been run up! I didn't hear about it when it went public!

They really ought to have a "customer testimonial" section on their web site. I had heard about Netflix for the longest time, but was always skeptical about it, until I heard from you, ecurbh, and Corin that it was a good deal.

The "word of mouth" was the only thing that sold me on it...now only after a week, I'll swear by it.

Let me also recommend another Coen Brothers movie, "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" Just plain funny, imho.

Never saw it, due to my boycott of George Clooney.

Oh. It's the first movie I've seen him in where he played someone other than George Clooney.

I love that movie. Suzi brought it to Entmoot, but we didn't get around to watching it.

Good music, too!

Yes, the soundtrack CD is worth having all by itself.
