The Hobbit Hole V - Where Many Paths and Errands Meet...
ecurbh

Posted on 12/11/2003 2:07:57 PM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Where Many Paths and Errands Meet...

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

I thought of you the other day! I was reading a mystery set in NYC in, I believe, the 30's. There was a part in it where a girl was selling chickens to people in the city to keep in little coops in the backyard - and they mentioned Buff Orpingtons. I felt so knowledgeable! ;-)

He's in a religious thread... What can we tempt him out with?

If I recall correctly, Bill Cosby said it in a Jello/Jello Pudding commercial. I could be totally wrong though.

plus I was havin' to mentally adjust after someone called Suzi a feminist over on another thread

LOL!! Did you see my reply? I told the idjit that my friends would just HOWL at the thought of anyone calling ME a feminist. Unfortunately, that thread has devolved into the typical 'divorced men screaming about their sorry ex-wives' responses. The author of the thread, Maggie Gallagher is going to be in Worcester on Sunday to help run a "Protection of Marriage" rally at a local Catholic high school.

All the rooms with big windows are coooooold!

I guess I'm thinking more about the LIGHT rather than the warmth! It gets depressing if you can't see nice natural light in the winter.

Yeah. Seems like EVERY thread on marriage does that. It drives me nuts.

And once in awhile I poke my nose on and get called delusional. Dunno why I bother.

Yeah, getting married young, having a bunch of kids, homeschooling a couple of 'em, helping with church functions...you're a feminist, for sure! ;-)

I think the book makes a good point in favor of space exploration, as well.

It was also interesting that it did not portray the alien civilization as monolithic. There were good dog packs and evil dog packs, just like their are good and evil humans.

Yeah. Seems like EVERY thread on marriage does that.

There are a lot of men on this forum that I wish I didn't know how they really felt about women. I try not to read 'em anymore. I try to be a pretty sunny person and those really zap the joy right out of me. I am not even gonna ~look~ again today when I am already in a funk.

There was a funny joke told once "If women knew what we really thought of them they would never stop slapping us". Funny joke..... Sad reality!

Hair, a lot (not all) of the really bitter men brought their troubles down on their own heads. I suspect they married their ex-wives without really thinking things through in a lot (but certainly not all) cases.

I say not always because there are exceptions to every rule, but I wonder how many of these men's friends were shaking their heads in dismay when they walked down the aisle with the woman they chose?

Does that make sense?

I blame couples for becoming ugly, and I never believe one side's version of who the devil is.... the really bitter people maybe weren't too pleasant to be around BEFORE the wife left them either.

I agree with you.

Marriage takes a LOT of patience and forgiveness and compromising - it's the name of the game. And I think pride and grudge-holding can really do a number on it.

Not that I'm the expert. HA!

I stayed off those threads for months. But I always end up hoping a few NICE single guys will post comments. Usually by the time anyone has a chance to get a word in edgewise, the thread has devolved into...well...it's just depressing, that's all!

But I have a can of Vernor's! And stuff to eat! And the dog didn't make as much of a mess today as she COULD have while I was at work! Life is GOOD!

What makes me sad is the transferance of their problem onto ALL women.... Their problem was their own relationship. There are no blanket statements to explain away all women, or all men.

We have a good friend who got pooched, HARD, by the love of his life. I don't know if he will date again or not, but late at night if he's been drinkin' and you can get him to talk there is some ugly stuff in there that he now believes about women. None of it can be fixed by anyone else who might try to love him in the future. It is his own.
