They hate the fact that he's open with his Christianity...AND that he's sincere about it. He doesn't show up at church when it suits him, like Xlinton or Rev. Jackson, or Howierd Dean.

I've got a running theory that those who despise Bush the most are also those with little or no faith.

I don't really understand it, since, in my view, Bush is not that far from being a liberal himself.

I thought though, at the 2000 elections, that Bush winning was absolutely the hand of God. And now, looking back over this last 3 years and the things he's had to deal with, I'm convinced God put the right man in place.

No, very glad we didn't get Gore, we came close. Glad Bush is our CIC, too.

Still, although I like GW, and am an admirer of him, both as a person and as a leader, I sometimes wonder.

Although GW is the kind of guy that makes things happen, and probably that's what we need now, maybe that's what I distrust. It shouldn't be up to government to always be making things happen. And I could wish he didn't act so pleased with CFR.

Still, I'm voting for him again, who else is even out there, not to mention the horror of the Democrats.

These days I'm starting to think the Republicans don't have a particular political philosophy at all.

I don't think either side really does any more. The Democrats' goal in life seems to be to oppose everything the Republicans propose. And the Republicans' is to give in to the Dems (or adopt their position) in the hope they won't be called names any more.

Bush's signing of the Campaign Finance bill and the prescription drug giveaway really bug me.

It's just that I don't personally remember outright hatred in American presidential elections.

I don't either.... it's new. With Clinton maybe and the bitterness over that battle. I think that is where "what side you are on" became more important than philosophy, and it happened to both sides. We hated him personally more than anything he really ~did~ policy-wise. That grudge is being payed back now on Bush.

My current view is that the Democrats are just out and out socialists.... These days I'm starting to think the Republicans don't have a particular political philosophy at all.

I don't think either side has a philosophy. On economics, welfare, there just isn't driving need for a lot of movement that would lead to clear visions. The poor in this country do pretty well and we witness very little human suffering by the poor and downtrodden here at home. Our taxes are high but others' are higher and we are used to paying them. There is no depression to fight, and the masses on the internet are too young to even remember one. Really, our comfort level is to the point where even paying attention to politics is a mere hobby. Follow it if you like, ignore it and watch sitcoms if you don't care and your life won't change much. The country is basically gonna tick along the same no matter what.

Until we get hit. The only clear fight now is terrorism and weird things have happened there. The age of the internet has brought the tinfoilers and conspiracy theorists a huge eager audience. It has made the debate among the Democratic Underground uglier and more wacky. It has made attacking Bush personally the only way to win that argument... I think it will lead to a meltdown. That group resembles JFK's democrats in no way whatsoever and all the democrats I know don't even understand what they are talking about.

What I wish wasn't true in this country is the short attention span. We expect things to be solved and over in an episode or we either lose interest or think it has failed. It makes it hard to lay out a vision that is gonna take longer than an hour to fix.

From my view, I see he is pressing his conservative political philosophy as he can. Change like we needed after the Clintoons doesn't come as quickly, without volatile occurance.

You have on the left those who believe socialism is the only way, and are striving to end our system of government for it. Then you have the special interests, like homosexuals and the NOW pro-abortion groups, who are viscious, militant, and, though they comprise only a meager percent of our population, are an educated percent that inflict their agenda on our schools, on our news media and everywhere else they can, like on the internet. These groups will do whatever it takes to get what they want, with no regard for the overall well-being of this country, and the rest of the world for that matter. I believe Bush does care, and he is doing all he can do for us. He starts his day on bended knee. And I pray for him every day.

I'm starting to learn Blarney Pilgrim. I worked on it with the whistle for a bit last night (broke a string on the mando and I wasn't in the mood to find a new one), and the dog was NOT impressed. Did a lot of sighing, moaning, and shaking her head.

But she didn't leave the room, so maybe it coulda been worse...
