Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Where Many Paths and Errands Meet...
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

I was thinking of "Van-Sama", actually....
Also thinking of telling my sibs to start addressing me as 'nee-san'. Unfortunately, they'd probably do it.

I really like how they show up in the hobbit hole image, though. That's a nice touch.

Mr. Magoo??! Yes, but didn't Jim Backus (Mr. Howell from Gilligan's Island) do Mr. Magoo's voice in "A Christmas Carol?"

Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol ROCKS.
We're just blankety-blank-blank...ALL BAD!!
To: RosieCotton
Most likely, no. And it would be funny...

What do you say to an actor you know very well but was never really all that great?Well, if it was me, I'd probably just nudge Rose and say, "Hey, isn't that Jim Backus?"... then she'd walk up to him, shake his hand and say, "I've always enjoyed your work!"
I like to admire from afar, she likes to walk up and say "Hi!"

Okay, I'm rolling my eyes ...
MLK spoke to everyone in this country, not just black folk! Having his birthday as a black-only holiday is an insult to everyone concerned, IMHO.
Sheesh! What do the biracial kids do ... take half a day?
To: Rose in RoseBear
I still can't quite believe that's really true. We had about four kids tell us this, but I still can't help thinking they MUSTA had it wrong. Surely?
But yeah, that's about what we decided.
To: Corin Stormhands
AFAIK, Jim Backus always did the voice of Mr. Magoo.

AFAIK, Jim Backus always did the voice of Mr. Magoo. Ah...tricksey website it was. Casey Kasem was a "voice" in the series. But Jim Backus was Mr. Magoo.
I can sleep now.

Yah... I'm kinda like that too. I imagine that when somebody hits a certain level of celebrity, they're *always* having people walk up and make some sort of fuss. If it were me, I would have to think it gets a little old after a while, and I just can't bring myself to become that sort.
It doesn't happen too often, but every now and then. On one of my flights last year I found myself sitting a couple of rows behind Terry Bradshaw (he was in first class, I was not. Go figure). But just couldn't bring myself to be the sort of person that would intrude.

Unless, of course, I'm meeting Jim Shooter ... be still, my heart! I enthused all over him. And DaBear had to hold me back from glad-handing Walter Koenig.

Happened pretty frequently when we lived in DC. I was at a Mall one night and saw Al and Tipper (this was pre-VP).
Saw "Dear Abby" once at a restaurant.
And literally almost ran into Sam Donaldson once outside the Mayflower Hotel.

I almost wonder if MLK were still around he wouldn't be a republican. Seems to me that his vision and that of the poverty pimps like Jesse are so desperately at odds...

It can't be a black only holiday.... our local high school was closed, and we have about a .03% minority population.
At work, though, nobody took the day off.

Our County school superintendent (who happens to be African American) got in a lot of hot water last year when he wanted kids to go to school on MLK Day. They'd already missed a lot because of the sniper and snow. So he thought they should take away that holiday to make up for the time.
The school board caved. But what they said was "if the days is important to you, you can stay home."
Jr. asked. I said "yes the day is an important day for your education, you're going to school."

And literally almost ran into Sam Donaldson once outside the Mayflower Hotel. Now THAT has possibilities. If only for the small fun of watching him explain the next day on TV why he has that big shiner.
