The Hobbit Hole V - Where Many Paths and Errands Meet...
ecurbh

Posted on 12/11/2003 2:07:57 PM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Where Many Paths and Errands Meet...

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

I used to think that way. Confusers have gotten so hosed up with driver/OS/yada/yada conflicts, I doubt I'll do that again.

Yup. Sounds like the OS is busted. Maybe the GDTS can do a repair install of XP without a format, but you're right that it would be nice to get to the disk first and rescue whatever you can just in case.

2J... That machine needs some hands-on by the GDTS.

Soaked for about a half-hour...done now.

I'd been doing this faithfully for the last few days...but skipped yesterday...the split area just started feeling terrible again.

Just got in another two eggs! That's four for four! LOL 16 eggses in the fridge!

Gonna start lunch, then call...Matthew says he's STARVING!

Probably shouldn't even bother with calling HP? I just think it's going to be futile and they'll probably want to charge me per minute since my warranty is out...which I understand a geek on the other end is just trying to make a livin' too, God bless 'em...but I'd rather talk to them face to face with the machine, if I'm gonna pay 'em...beggin' your pardon.

Concur... if the warranty is out there's little point in calling HP.

I'm fixin' mac and cheese for Matthew. He loves it but since I bought all that for Y2K and it got weavils in it...I just haven't enjoyed it like I used to.

I know I know...Y2K was a hoax. But it was a lot of fun being prepared for a massive disaster! I bet you ask anyone that really prepared and I bet they'd say the same thing. it was FUN! And exciting! The fact that nothing happened is completely beside the point.

At least for me. But then again, it may just be my mundane life! ROFLOL

Ok...so I'm going to take the machine to the geeks down the street this afternoon or so...

Any suggestions on what I should say or ask? Rose, you had some things last night...could you write them down here for me, or in a freepmail?

Did we have the list of phone numbers put together yet?

I have Suzi's, so I'm probably all set...but I just wondered.

hehehe... you'll notice from my sign-up date that it was only a couple days before y2k. That's when I got so frustrated lurking that I had to sign on to yell at people that it was all a bunch of noise about nothing.

It was fun times though. My company was really paranoid about the whole thing, and I thought it was all so darn silly.

We are going to run into Ace and get some rock salt. Salt the pavement up where the truck will be when the trailer needs to get over the lip of the pavement. Even if he doesn't get all the way down, the farther he can butt the trailer down there the better.

It's his truck a 4x4? If that's just slush on the gravel he shouldn't have any trouble should he?

It looks much improved already, Hair!

Haven't you got some extra kitty litter laying around? It should work just as well!

Yeah - it's a big one-ton Ram 4X4.... his trailer is a big long gooseneck (5th wheel) job. Traction for the trailer isn't the issue, it is traction for the truck to pull the weight, I think.... so I need to salt the upper part where the truck will be. The parking lot looks bad from here, but it is really mashed-potato slushy with mostly wet underneath. It has stopped raining and the sun is coming out.

Doesn't look so bad to me. No worse than a lot o' parking lots around here. I think the salt should do it! Especially if it's relatively warm out. Salt doesn't work as well when it's super cold, but you said it's in the mid thirties there, right?

Current temp here...-6

Glad to hear. I'm just not interested enough in the inner workings any more to fool with them. I'd rather build ham radios.
