IT'S OFFICIAL! You can now buy ADVANCE TICKETS to see Mel Gibson's "The Passion of The Christ". Icon Productions has set up a toll-free ticket hotline for your ordering requests (see below for telephone number). The best way to show your support for the film now is to purchase advance tickets. This sends a clear message to theaters across the world that people really are interested in seeing this film. The more people that buy advance tickets, the more theaters will carry the movie. The more theaters that carry the movie, the more people will get a chance to see it.

Advance tickets are currently only available for the UNITED STATES and CANADA.

Many of you have already told us that advance tickets would make great Christmas gifts! Well now you can get them after all. There also may be discounts for qualifying large group sales.

Please be patient when calling as there will hopefully be an overwhelming response to purchase tickets! You may have to hold for a short time when calling before getting an operator. If you get a busy signal, please try again at a later time.

It's great news -- there are now distributors for the United States and Canada and many theaters have agreed to carry the film! The film will be launched on February 25, 2004 in both the United States and Canada. (Details for other countries hopefully coming soon). Icon Productions has now made available the toll-free telephone hotline open 24 hours/day for advance tickets. Although some theaters have agreed to carry the film, some still have not. If people buy advance tickets and show their support of this movie, it increases the likelihood that more theaters will get on board and carry the film.

Individual tickets and groups tickets can be purchased. In fact, large groups have already been known to order all tickets for an entire theater! If you have a group or congregation that wants to see this film, there may be discounts for qualifying groups. So, tell everyone about this great opportunity to get this important film into even more theaters!

If you live in the United States or Canada and would like to order advance tickets please call:

So, if you were planning to see this film and know others who were too, please consider the purchase of advance tickets. And please pass this email on to everyone you think might be interested. (The film still may not be available in all areas - please visit our website or call the toll-free number for more information).

From what I understand, the venue in which tickets will be available for this movie is through the 1-800 number. Two of the phone line workers, Amber and Crystal, told me that tickets would not be made available at the box offices of theaters or through other avenues such as Ticketmaster etc. You may want to check on this before you decide to wait.

I was also told that this movie was going to be released in larger cities first and then eventually trickle down into the smaller towns' theaters.

I'll be seeing it in a big city. All the big theaters and most of the indie theaters there have ways to purchase seats in advance via website or phone. A couple of indie theaters just open their box office early and you can buy tickets to later movies that day. Worst case scenario is I'd have to go down to the box office noonish to buy a ticket in person. But whether by website, phone, or boxoffice, I'd know which viewing on which day I had a seat for. That seems preferable to me to owning a generic coupon tradeable for a theater ticket.

If I bought one of these generic coupons, I could not exchange it for a ticket via internet or phone. I would have to go down to the boxoffice early to trade it for a ticket for a specific seat at a specific showing.

For me, there is no advantage to owning such a generic coupon.

I bought my tickets through the 800 number, in speaking with the operators they are getting very busy on a natiowide basis, I think as we get closer to the opening date this movie will have such a tremendous response that it might be hard to get tickets when it comes to the local theatres.
I understand there is a part in the movie where Jesus puts his hands out when he is falling on the ground and this shot looks like he is coming right at you from the screen, my heart starts SKIPPING A BEAT WHEN I think of the impact this movie will have on everyone. We have an AWESOME G-d and what a way he will be known through the Big Screen, Mel Gisbon you are truly a Hollywood Hero and like Moses was chosen by G-d in his day to get the word out, I beleive Mel also has been chosen by G-d to get the word
out. Jesus is truly are reason for the season and our reedemer for eternal life. G-d Bless all

AND PLEASE SUPPORT THE PASSION!!!!!!!

Difficult, maybe, but similar to any popular movie / show / event.

But you don't really have a "ticket to a seat." In essence, you have a gift certificate, valid at any theater showing the film. You must still beat the crowd to the box office to redeem the certificate. How is that any different from taking a $10 bill out of your pay envelope, and writing "Reserved for The Passion" on it?

And unless the theaters have forgotten the profit motive, they will extend the engagement until the local market is saturated and ticket sales start to wane.

This is simply impossible. Tickets -- real tickets for real seats at specific showings -- will be purchaseable according to the individual policies of the individual theaters showing the film. Icon would be insane to bar the theaters from selling advance tickets in their usual manner.

There will not be one big "Ticketmaster" method of purchasing seats anywhere in the country, but there never is for any film. If you want advance tickets for "Lord of the Rings III," you'll have to find out where it will be playing, and buy advance tickets according to their method. But when you do, you will have a real ticket, not a "LOTR III coupon."

I am not opposed to buying these coupons, but if you're eventually going to have stand in line at the box office, I don't see how the coupon has an advantage over cash, unless you're giving it as a gift certificate to someone. And they seem to have a disadvantage if I will be able to use my credit card to buy a real advance ticket over the phone or web.

I love Mel Gibson, and I despise the reasons this movie is getting ripped... but I'm not going to see it. I'm also not going to rip it at all. But I'm a conservative Presbyterian, so I have to give it a "no" on 2nd Commandment grounds.

You have quite an interesting post, and it kind of left me baffled, not about the film but why you would think it is so important? I know for people like me and other beleivers in Jesus Christ as the Son of G-d the film will be something we will actually be able to now see with our own 2 eyes the sacrafice of our Lord who for many of us for years and years pray to, for everything we do in our life.
On the other hand others who beleive in G-d but not in Jesus as the Son will view it as maybe a good movie but nothing else.
But out of curiosity a person like yourself who beleives in no G-d, why would this be important? I don't know any atheists so I just wonder how this movie impacted you?
