If memory serves me correctly, the word Faluga has its origins as the site of a battle in the early days of Islamic history. I have searched with Google and can't find the detains - I'll try to check a book later tonight. Two references I have been able to find in google that are relevant for Faloga (perhaps spelled Faluga) are:

Faluga Brigade, the only Egyptian army division to distinguish itself in the 1948 Palestine war

There is a military industrial site west of Baghdad named Faluga that was searched by weapons inspectors

The name recurs in enough places in the Islamic world though for me to be pretty confident in my memory that it has its origins in early Islam but I could be wrong - certainly wouldn't be the first time :)

RE POST NO. 9535

I know I saw that term/group pop up on a few new posts as I travelled the net looking at links of interest last night.
