WASHINGTON -- The Bush administration lowered the national terror alert level Friday as Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge said that an urgent threat had passed.
The terror alert level, however, will not be lowered in the five boroughs of New York City, which has continuously held at orange since the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

Excerpt from Bloomberg - NYC, DC and LA to remain on HIGH ALERT
``Certain locales within the private sector'' in the U.S. will ``maintain added vigilance,'' said Ridge. He declined to elaborate further. The U.S. will keep the aviation industry, nuclear facilities and ports on high alert, as well as several cities such as New York, Washington and Los Angeles, the Washington Post reported today.
