There was a large explosion about 20 minutes after the plane hit the Pentagon. I know, I heard it and felt it. It shook the plate glass windows of the store I was just preparing to enter, about 3 miles from the Pentagon.

A friend who's an EMT later said it was a LP gas tank exploding at the Pentagon.

There were also realtime reports of a car bomb at the State Dept., which turned out not to be true.

I took a drive around downtown DC that same evening, including right through the Mall via 14th Street, and there was no other apparent damage other than the Pentagon.
