ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Washington -- Los Alamos National Laboratory can't account for nine floppy disks and a large-capacity storage disk that contain classified information, University of California officials said Tuesday, another embarrassing security lapse that jeopardizes UC's 60-year tenure as manager of the nation's top nuclear weapons design lab.
S. Robert Foley, UC's new vice president for laboratory management, ordered a security stand-down at the New Mexico lab while the Energy Department and the university separately investigate what happened to the disks. Lab officials insist there's no evidence that national security was compromised, but they said they couldn't guarantee that without finding the items."
