What is its significance? [re: "the cattle"]

Saturday, 31 January - DAY OF HAJJ (Pilgrimage)
Sunday, 1 February - EID-UL- ADHA (Day of Sacrifice)
Sunday, 22 February - MUHARRAM (Islamic New Year)

Eid ul Adha refers to the sacrifice made by Abraham for "Allah." Abraham was told to sacrifice his son, and as he struggled and finally overcame his reluctance, "Allah" replaced his son with a lamb/sheep (??).

That act is celebrated on Eid ul Adha, and can in modern times is signified with the sacrifice of a sheep or cow, which is then cooked and distributed during the Day Of Sacrifice.

The celebration lasts three days, this year (2004) from 1 February through 3 February (although some discrepancies occur due to the imprecision of the Muslim lunar calendar, so it could be 2 February through 4 February).

Aren't the borders controlled by the individual states that have the borders? ie., Texas is responsible for its border, not Federal, California for its border not the Federal, etc.

Heavenly Father, we return to give You thanks that You have held at bay those plans of attack against our beloved country and our citizens throughout the world. You have looked with favor upon the dawning of this New Year and have allowed us to enter the freshness of this day without the shedding of innocent blood. We continue to seek Your protection every hour of every day ... grant the greatest wisdom to those who gather information, that they would be able to confound the enemy and divert disaster. Keep us ever alert to any hint of danger, both here and abroad. Refresh those who stand guard, that they never tire on behalf of the safety and security of a free-loving people. We covet their safety and the soon return to the loving families who await.

God of the Universe, instill in all peoples everywhere the immediate need to sweep away every form of terrorism and to render harmless all those who would do harm. May the Spirit of Discernment continue to guide those in authority over us, that each day brings us closer to life lived without constant threat. May it be thus, O God, in the Name of Jesus, I pray, Amen ...

In my extensive cyber travels, the only 2 dates that really were highlighted on calendars, events, and announcements were: February 2 and February 4, 2004.

At least February 24 is still safe for Mardi Gras.

February 2 and February 4, 2004.

Eid ul Adha (Day Of Sacrifice) is celebrated for three days beginning 2 Feb, ending 4 Feb.

Also as noted in a previous post, we're getting some imprecision on those dates due to the vagaries of the lunar Muslim calendar. It could also be 1 Feb through 3 Feb.

U.S.-Mexican border - A guest-worker bill is part of a sweeping bid to reform the nation's immigration laws and is being pushed by McCain and U.S. Reps Jim Kolbe of Tucson and Jeff Flake of Mesa, all Republicans. They say the bill would create a legal way for workers to come to the United States and then return home. It would also legalize the status of the millions of illegal immigrants already living and working in the United States

>>Both of these suspected terrorists are from the town where I live. It sort of brings the terrorism thing a little too close for comfort.(that doesn't sound right, but you know what I mean)<<

They are from the town where I live. Antioch, CA.

Well let's just be thankful that we were all able to ring in the new year and nothing happened. I don't think any of us can say with any certainty why nothing happened last night or this morning.

It comes down to 3 choices... Either our guys stoped/made it to hard for them to pull anything off, they were testing our defences to see what we would do, or it was all a bunch of bunk.

Frankly I don't give a damn which one it was, I'm just glad nothing happened. So let's hope this turns out to be a safe and happy year folks.

And as always thanks for the pings to the info Piper...
