Department of Homeland Security Announces $179 Million in Grants to Secure America's Ports

For Immediate Release
Office of the Press Secretary
December 10, 2003

As part of the Department's commitment to enhancing security at our nation's key ports and facilities, Secretary of Homeland Security Tom Ridge is pleased to announce $179,025,900 million dollars in Port Security Grants. The Port Security Grant Program provides resources for security planning and projects to improve dockside and perimeter security which is vital to securing our critical national seaports. These new awards will contribute to important security upgrades like new patrol boats in the harbor, surveillance equipment and the construction of new command and control facilities. This grant program represents one layer of the Department of Homeland Security's system of defenses for our nation's ports that includes monitoring the people, cargo and vessels entering our ports from the time they leave a foreign port to the time they arrive in the United States.

"The Department of Homeland Security is committed to further securing our nation's highways, mass transit systems, railways, waterways and pipelines, each of which is critical to ensuring the freedom of mobility and economic growth," said Secretary Ridge. "These projects are critical to the mission of securing our ports."

The Transportation Security Administration, the United States Coast Guard and the Department of Transportation's Maritime Administration evaluated the Port Security Grant Applications and selected the grant award recipients. The latest round of grants has been awarded to 442 projects in 326 locations to 235 applicant organizations from across the nation.

"The Department is committed to improving security at our maritime facilities, and we know that our ports are not secured from Washington. The relationship between the government and the private companies that run these facilities is a crucial one that we are committed to strengthening to protect our nation's ports," said Under Secretary for Border and Transportation Security Asa Hutchinson.

In addition to these awards totaling $179 million, the Department of Homeland Security also awarded $170 million from the FY'03 budget from the Port Security Grant Program in June and $75 million in port security grants for specific projects from the FY '03 Supplemental Budget from the Office for Domestic Preparedness in May 2003.

Underreported news - WORTH REPEATING:

http://www.fbi.gov/dojpressrel/pressrel03/texas111303.htm

FBI.gov - DOJ Press Release:

UNITED STATES ATTORNEY'S OFFICE
Eastern District of Texas
PRESS ROOM
November 13, 2003

"SMITH COUNTY MAN ADMITS POSSESSING CHEMICAL WEAPONS"

"(Tyler, Texas) A Tyler resident has admitted to possessing sodium cyanide, and other chemicals for the purpose of creating a dangerous weapon. WILLIAM J. KRAR pleaded guilty this morning to one count of Possessing a Dangerous Chemical Weapon. His co-defendant, JUDITH L. BRUEY, pleaded guilty to an information charging her with Conspiracy to Possess Illegal Weapons.

According to information prosecutors presented in court, sometime before the spring of 2003, Krar accumulated a large quantity of sodium cyanide and acids such as hydrochloric, nitric and acetic acids. The chemicals were found last April after the discovery of false documents belonging to Krar. The false documents were part of a package Krar mailed to Edward Feltus in New Jersey in January 2002. Instead of being delivered to Feltus as Krar intended, the package was accidentally taken to a household on Staten Island, New York. The package contained more than five false identification documents, including a North Dakota birth certificate, a Social Security card, a Vermont birth certificate, a Defense Intelligence Agency Identification card, and a United Nations Multinational Force Identification card. The subsequent investigation determined that Krar not only possessed false documents, but had accumulated dangerous chemical weapons. Sodium cyanide is a toxic chemical by itself and as such constitutes a chemical weapon in its own right. When mixed with strong acids like those found at Krar's residence, the combination, cyanide gas, is extremely lethal. During the search of the Smith County residence he shares with Bruey, officers found and recovered multiple illegal weapons including machine guns, silencers, destructive devices, thousands of rounds of ammunition and a handgun with an obliterated serial number.

U.S. Attorney Matthew D. Orwig complimented the investigative efforts of the FBI, ATF, the Army Criminal Investigation Division and the Defense Department Criminal Investigative Service, "This investigation centered on very serious allegations. Through the cooperative effort of the FBI, ATF, the Army CID and the Criminal Investigative Service, these defendants were identified and their activities pinpointed and neutralized. We live in a safer world because of the efforts of these agencies."

Krar, 62, faces a maximum sentence of life in prison and a $250,000 fine. Bruey, 54, faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a fine of $250,000. Edward Feltus previously pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting the transportation of false identification documents. He is awaiting sentencing. U.S. District Judge Leonard Davis has not set a sentencing date for any of the defendants.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Wes Rivers is prosecuting the case."

I saw another article about them, where they also mentioned that they actually made and SOLD several bombs that would spread cyanide.

Yes, I posted an article before, but it was rather scanty and they were just starting to investigate the case.

"Car explosion near Italian synagogue not terror attack"
Jerusalem Post ^ | Dec. 11, 2003 | ASSOCIATED PRESS

Posted on 12/11/2003 2:36:00 PM PST by yonif

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "A car exploded outside a synagogue in the northern Italian city of Modena at 4 AM local time Thursday, killing the driver.

Army Radio reported that the Foreign Ministry said the incident was not a terror attack.

Police said the dead man was of Jordanian origin. The Italian news agency ANSA initially said he was of Palestinian origin, but then said he was born in Jordan and had Kuwaiti citizenship.

The prefect of Modena, Italia Fortunati, said all indications pointed to a "desperate" act by a man known to public-service agencies in Modena as having "serious problems," including alcohol abuse, financial and mental problems.

"He was suffering from depressive crisis, he was out of work," ANSA quoted Fortunati as saying. "I repeat, it's a gesture of a desperate man." Fortunati stressed that no explosives were found in the car."

Touted as a key to Iraq's future, the 700-man battalion lost some 250
men over recent weeks as they were preparing to begin operations this
month, Pentagon (news - web sites) officials said.

re post no. 2317...

Well, let's see what "daleel" and his cohorts accomplished with this photo which is probably not doctored at all....

1. PRAYER IS POWERFUL. We are praying even harder for our American soldiers and our coalition soldiers.

2. Daleel and friends are trying very hard to pave their way to Hell. What they will find is that Hell is not Paradise.

3. Various "intelligence" services are probably watching all or most of these jihad posts and other info these "jihad" groups provides. What they learn will determine what America and her allies do next to our jihadi enemies.

4. Eternal life in Hell is not something we want for anyone. Apparently, "daleel" and his fellow jihadis want to spend eternity in Hell -- so be it.
