Al Qaeda again threatens New York, Washington and Los Angeles - Daily Terror Threat

Monday, November 3, 2003

A new message was posted in the last few hours by the Jeddah-based al-Qaeda-linked Al-Islah (Reform) society calling on Muslims to flee New York, Washington and Los Angeles in advance of major al Qaeda attacks in those cities. This is revealed by DEBKAfile.

The message accuses the United States of predetermining its end (doom) by its policies. ?The Jews rule the Pentagon by remote control and (are the cause) of Muslims being killed in every corner of the world. The United States should therefore expect more blows.?

The message is signed on behalf of the al Bayan (The Threat) movement by ?your warrior brother, Abul Hassan al Khadrami?.

Our Muslim expert identifies the name of the signatory as belonging to a Yemeni from Hadhrameuth, the Bin Ladens? place of origin where Osama enjoys substantial tribal support.

DEBKAfile?s counter-terror sources stress that warnings appearing on these forums are taken both very seriously and with caution by the intelligence services keeping track of the terrorist network?s electronic traffic.

Last November, Jeddah-based fundamentalist forums addressed a message to an Al Qaeda member, saying whoever understands ? understands; whoever knows, knows, but we are marching towards an operation that will take us to Paradise. Three days later, the Mombasa Paradise hotel was blown up killing 12 Kenyans and 3 Israelis and a failed shoulder-launched Strela anti-air missile missed an Israeli airliner at Mombasa airport.

Remember actor James Woods who probably witnessed a dry run on the Boston to LA flight 1 week before and contacted the FBI when he landed only to be blown off.

I believe the FBI was at his door soon after he reported it.

Did not realize that he had one in PA...relax...

I'm game...maybe its a "dual use" hearing aid with stereo channels so he can listen "regular" or listen for information. If I was in charge, I'd give him something like this. Like someone else posted, Secret Service has communication devices; seems like a good idea under the circumstances (so many hotshots in one room for SOTU) for HS Dir. Ridge to have something. Probably didn't, but it would make sense if he did. Why should James Bond get all the good toys!

Hum, terrorist good morning greeting. :) ROFLOL. Now, that is funny.

No kidding! Kind of like hotel wake up service!

And I want another mint for my pillow, please!

There was much hubbub down in Havana about Castro going down the tubes recently...military marches on the radio and such, army called out in force etc... what if that is just a cover, what if they are going to foist something...cuban missles would be a surprise element.

I can't say that I disagree with the premise of the article. Just about anyone with a good imagination and basic understanding of global affairs can make predictions with respect to potential attacks, which are broad enough to link the predicted attack with an event that actually occurs somewhere around the world, and then attribute the difference between what was predicted to happen and what actually happened (or what never happened) to top secret inside information that can't be disclosed because of national security reasons; or better yet, claim that the attack never occurred because of the secret information that the person who made the prediction passed to his or her undisclosed sources deep within the CIAFBINSAATFDHSTSA. (I know this is a run-on sentence, but that's the kind of mood I'm in at the moment.) :-)

Agree, Labyrinthos, with one caveat...people should be prepared at all times to protect themselves and their family (and maybe a neighbor or two) in the event any trouble comes along...whether its the weather, grocery workers strike, getting "punked" by EOM or Daleel, etc. C'mon, hands up everyone who was ever a Boy or Girl Scout...we were taught to 'be prepared.' And, it will do much to allay free-falling fears knowing that at least you have made some provision in case of any emergency. (I'm going now to find my GS bracelet as a reminder to practice what I preach!)

I'm very surprised that they admitted that!! Makes me even more suspicious about this crash than before. The whole thing from the beginning just doesn't make sense, but then neither did the Egypt Air crash. I certainly wouldn't fly on anything out of Egypt or with one of their pilots. YeeeeeeeeeHaaaaaaaaaaaaaw on the way down just like John Dean. : )

Thanks for the information. There's so much that this thread has taught me about the Middle Eastern issues.

I've really gotten an education from this thread, too. Very valuable information and very insightful posters here!

While I am prepared for any eventuality, these threats don't cause me to lose sleep or change my routine. They are a bit worrisome, but because I'm ready for anything, I don't stress that much. I have supplies, plans, and like minded friends whom I can rely on. All in all, I'm a pretty lucky guy.

OBL has/had the $$$ to acquire nukes, no doubt about that.

I don't know that I disagree with you that much, but nukes present a number of operational difficulties.

For one thing, they're difficult to produce - you need a source of weapons-grade uranium for example, not something that al-Qaeda would be likely to be able purify themselves. So that leaves buying one - certainly they'd have the money, but you still have to find a willing seller ... one whom you can be sure will sell you the real thing and not a mock-up.

Then you have to consider that they're really a pretty fine piece of machinery, with various maintenance and shelf life requirements; and the parts won't be available at the local hardware store.

Then you have to transport them to their target. Certainly you can try to sneak one close to a city on board a ship, but I suspect that we've got a pretty good idea what ships might be compromised. And if your target isn't a seaport (as many big cities aren't), you have to move it around on land. All of this poses risks of discovery since the bomb will be either heavy, radioactive, or both. It's not that it's impossible to escape detection, but it does pose potential risks to the mission.

Now consinder that these are probably single-stage bombs - uranium only, no hydrogen. The hydrogen would introduce additional variables including reduced dshelf life and increased weight, as well as being less likely to be available in a portable bomb. The effect is that they're similar to the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombs in terms of yield, which means that it's hard to get more than about 100,000 casualties from them except in the very densest cities - and in most places less. So if you really want to cause1 massive destruction, you need more than two or three or even a dozen. >P?The point isn't that any of this is impossible, simply that it introduces unnecessary risks to the mission. Infectious biologicals like smallpox don't have these drawbacks - they're easy to hide before you've released them, and once released they spread on their own -- unlike airborne anthrax for example which will only infect those in the immediate neighborhood of the release.

Look at the things throughout history that have caused the most horrific casualties - the ones at the top of the list are almost always epidemics. Even today we can treat 1only 1the major bacterial infections - many bacterial and essentially all viral diseases are untreatable. The primary defenses againnst them have been containment and vaccination. For some of them we still don't have an effective vaccine, and for others (eg, smallpox) a vaccine exists but relatively few Americans are current on it. Now also consider that they would have no compunction about testing their strain for potency either by a volunteer or a forced subject. In the West this would be considered highly immoral but they don't operate by the same moral code. Finally remember that the release of an infectious agent is much easier than a noninfectious agent like anthrax or a chemical agent.

The implication is clear that you can probably do the most damage with a biological agent, especially if you don't care if the epidemic spreads back to your own country. Maybe you hope to be able to vaccinate people before it gets there or maybe you just don't care.

Finally note that the cost is much lower for biologicals.

My conclusion is that for someone who wants to do the most damage a biological agent is almost irresistable. I'm not sure that this gives me much comfort however. :-(

I believe what the President said - there is still a serious threat (also Cheney said it) - whether these idiots on the internet have anything to do with it who knows - but both the Pres. and Cheney believe a threat to the Homeland remains. I believe them. That doesn't mean you should duct tape or liquidate - just it's not over till it's over. L

Agree, liz44040 (hey, how come you have all those 4's in your screen name...just kidding!) Hope your back is doing a-okay!

you have your own faith and we have our own faith..
you have your own faith and we have our own faith, you have your own religon and we have our own religon, you are not willing to see the truth and pray to the god that made this universe with the mighty of his knowledge and power, you still beleaive that what you have is what you created not what god has given you, some of you really beleave that everything he has is becouse of his smartness or becouse of his wealth not coz god wanted him to have all that, god doesnt give coz he loves that person, he gives to test , some times money and power can be a leading road to hell, and other times they are the opining gates to heaven, but the choice comes to you at the end. dont be so happy with your power and knowledge its just like a donky carrying books on his back!!
how many nations in the past had the power and the knowledge to the limit that some of them till now we dont know how they got it and what is that knowledge!!(like the pyramids) but what happend to this strong nation...!!! (non of them survived!!) non of them!! not a single person survived to come and tell us how they had all that knowledge and what was that knowledge !!! why do you think !! coz god wiped them out, they thought that they are the greatest and no one can defeat them, they thought they had the weapons and the nuclear capabilitys at thier times!! but they got wiped!
but humans dont learn from the history of nations, look at russa and hitler!! and now its the turn of the US but it looks like god saved the best for last!!!

open your eyes!!
