It is outrageous that Michael Che uses his enormous platform on Saturday Night Live to mock Israel while casually invoking one of the most inflammatory accusations imaginable: genocide.
During Saturday’s “Weekend Update,” Che joked about Israelis voting “on the right side, or the left side, or the genocide.” The punchline was apparently that Israel is committing genocide. Very funny—if you consider demonizing an entire country and its people comedy.
Advocacy group StandWithUs called him out, pointing out that Israelis of every background—Jewish, Muslim, Christian, Druze and others—participate in the country's democracy. The election saw the highest voter turnout since 1999, with Arab parties winning a record number of votes.
Rather than acknowledge this remarkable exercise in democratic participation, Che chose to recycle the genocide accusation as a cheap anti-Israel punchline.
But there is a larger and more disturbing point here. Che's joke illustrates, yet again, how the word genocide has been weaponized in the campaign against Israel. It has become less a grave legal and moral accusation requiring evidence than a political slogan, a convenient insult—and, increasingly, a guaranteed applause line.
When Israel is the target, apparently, simply saying the G-word is enough. No argument necessary. No evidence demanded. Just invoke the accusation and wait for the laughs or cheers.
We saw precisely the same phenomenon in April 2026, when crowds at a campaign rally for Abdul El-Sayed cheered Hasan Piker every time a speaker accused Israel of genocide.
As the Jerusalem Post reported on April 8, 2026:
“The hundreds of people who turned out for Abdul el-Sayed’s campaign rally with Hasan Piker gave a range of reasons for showing up, cheering anytime a speaker accused Israel of genocide.”
There it is again: the G-word as an applause line. The accusation itself becomes the performance. Its gravity is lost, its meaning diluted, and its evidentiary requirements seemingly irrelevant.
And Che has form. In 2021, he joked on SNL that Israel had vaccinated half its population against COVID-19, adding: “I'm going to guess it's the Jewish half.” The remark prompted outrage from American Jewish organizations and condemnation from then-Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Five years later, the material hasn't improved. Only the accusation has escalated.
There is a difference between political satire and recycling accusations that demonize an entire country based on falsehood. A television audience laughing does not make an allegation any less serious, any more factual, or any less consequential.
Perhaps the most revealing thing about Che's joke is not that he made it, but that he could expect an audience to understand the word genocide as a punchline—and respond accordingly.
In Che's case, perhaps the word should be spelled with an S: genoside [Since this "funny" comedian put his A$S in it].
Because when it comes to Israel, the G-word increasingly seems to serve one purpose: not to establish a crime, not to talk facts, but to generate applause. And that, in itself, says a great deal about the culture of demonization surrounding the Jewish state.

Right about putting his as$..into it
enormous platform
LMAO
WHO???
Michael Che has made hateful remarks about whites, especially attractive white women(, such as the wife of his co-host, actress Scarlett Johansson), it’s not too surprising he would make anti-Bibi remarks.
But this here is just juvenile word play. I don’t expect elevated thoughts from him, so I’m not too surprised. I also don’t expect his remark to make much of any impact one way or another.
Mike pretends to read the News on todays’
Saturday Night Live.
He is an SNL loon
It is PAST TIME we cancelled SNL.
I don’t watch that garbage scow-I mean show. 50 years ago it was genuinely funny. I wonder what the original cast members (what’s left of them) think of the 21st century crew.
Me neither. I just saw the reaction on inn.
