US Publisher Puts Out Iranian Author’s Book Claiming Jewish Punctuation is Genocide

Hachette is a French company that is also one of the big 3 foreign publishers that have taken over the American book industry. Like its German counterparts, Hachette has pushed out toxic woke garbage like ‘In Defense of Looting’ while suppressing books by conservatives and critics of woke abuses. Now, Hachette has managed to publish a book by an Iranian author accusing Jews of punctuation genocide.

The book is “On the Mark: From Periods to Interrobangs, How Punctuation Remade the World” by Florence Hazrat, who has an Iranian background, and no survey of punctuation could not be complete without claiming that the Jews are a fake people who use punctuation to claim a fake peoplehood.

This ambition inevitably leads to overreach. If punctuation played a role in everything, what about, say, the war in Gaza? Hazrat finds a link. “Punctuation marks in Hebrew,” she explains, “are relics of a brutal colonial system that is far from over.” Adding punctuation turned Hebrew into a spoken language, “paving the way for an artificial sense of unity among Jewish people from all over the globe, encouraging them to move to the land that already had people—a people made to suffer and bear the brunt of European anti-Semitism in the most horrendous ways for generations.” It seems (the reason is not altogether clear) that, had Yiddish been the official language of Israel, atrocities might have been avoided.

Florence Hazrat’s sentences make no coherent sense: maybe she should be fixing her own punctuation rather than examining that of others.

The “sense of unity among Jewish people” dates back thousands of years and its origins in Egyptian slavery are recorded in the religious history of much of the world, including Islam, and has nothing to do with punctuation marks. Hebrew was a spoken language thousands of years ago and its most notable work is the world’s best-selling book, perhaps Hazrat can open a copy some day.

Hazrat is confusing Hebrew with Arabic, where punctuation marks were added, leading Muslims to complain that the punctuation marks were ‘colonialism’.

But, more to the point, Hachette feels comfortable peddling this sort of antisemitic third world slop that would once have been a MEMRI clip to American audiences, even while canceling Jewish authors.

Onomatopoeia is alive and well, as Victor Borge illustrates. That was quite funny lingustically.

The Xhosa have it down to a science and have linguistically blurred the boundaries between consonants and punctuation.

But I digress.

It would be good to see if these Alawahoo Whackbar linguistic idiots adjudge the Xhosa as genocidal according to the thread articles mentioned jihadist meme.

Aristophanes of Byzantium is credited with the invention of the early system of punctuation around 200 BC.

He was Greek, born in Byzantium in 257BC and later became the chief librarian of the Library of Alexandria in Egypt.

There is nothing in the record to reflect he was anything but a Hellenistic Greek.

Hebrew started a form of punctuation (spaces and lines) shortly thereafter with more elaborate punctuation becoming common by the 6th Century AD and really taking off about 800 AD, with full adoption of modern punctuation in the 1700-1800s — just like everyone else in the world.

In sum, this book is utter fiction, like everything else muslisms write.
