FBI agents who probed Donald Trump’s handling of classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago home asked Judge Aileen Cannon on Thursday whether they could testify before a grand jury — or even consult their lawyers — as part of an investigation into whether former government officials conspired against the president.
According to the filing, the current and former agents were subpoenaed to testify about their work in the the sweeping South Florida investigation into whether federal officials who criminally investigated Trump participated in a coordinated effort to deprive him of his rights.
But the agents said they were unsure what they could disclose because Cannon restricted disclosure of special counsel Jack Smith’s report and non-public information associated with it.
The former agents describe being in a bind. If the agents share information that Cannon has prohibited from disclosure, they risk being held in contempt of that order, according to the filing. But they could also find themselves in legal trouble for not providing information that the grand jury is requesting, their attorneys said.
The agents’ filing adds to the uncertainty surrounding the “grand conspiracy” investigation, one of the president’s top priorities at the Justice Department.
CNN has reached out to the Justice Department for comment.
Earlier this month, Joe diGenova, the attorney who oversaw the probe, resigned after clashing with senior department officials over its pace, CNN reported. His departure surprised officials who had expected charges within weeks, according to people familiar with the matter.

Well, I’ll be damned. Heading to the bar for a double single malt. Sun’s over the yard-arm somewhere.
I’m curious what a double single-malt serving would cost these days? I see a house brand of it at Trader Joe’s sometimes, the one that sell spirits, by bus. It is reasonably priced I think, compared to avg price of bigger name brands..
Once you try a decent single malt, most blended scotches are disappointing ( except some good Irish Whiskey)
As I remember, Judge Aileen Cannon is pretty even handed.

=s $2.29 per ounce. Double shot is $4.58. Thus if you do it at home it is less than 5 dollars. At a nice bar expect to be charged around 15-20 dollars for the double shot. At upscale bars it is more.
Ah, Glenlivet 12; that is the first single malt I tried 45 years ago. I’ve tried about half a dozen others over the years and I’ve settled on Glenfiddich 12. It has a good price point and I really like the taste. My brother likes heavy peated, but I think it tastes like drinking alcohol with a big smokey campfire burning a few feet away (without the ambiance).
Great to hear they are being called to account for carrying out the illegal orders they were issued. Carrying out illegal orders is just as illegal as issuing those orders.
If nothing else, I hope the “process is the punishment” financially ruins them all.
